Chris Dawes

One of the more disturbing things on forums like these is posters reeling off American draft terms like bust because they've heard it on ESPN.

A bust is a draft pick that basically contributes nothing of consequence to their team or the competion and then disappears.

Dawes may not be a particularly good player but he is not a bust.

Mate he is a flop. Thats the reality.

Cut ties at the end of the year.

We're paying him at least 500k a year at 4 years in exchange for pick 20 back in 2012.

Sorry but for that investment he''s been a but.

How much would Tory Dickson be on this year? He kicked 7 goals today. Dawes will be lucky to kick 7 goals by the end of June.

Theres no doubt he's overpaid relative to performance and it's likely there will be proven to have been better uses of Pick 20, even though, as it was a compromised draft, I don't think a player picked at or below that has done anything particularly noteworthy or played more games. My point was more specifically that bust is an extremely perjorative terminology used for draft picks and I dont think applicable to Dawes, who, though mediocre, has made some decent contributions and hasn't really been able to play in the role he was brought in for - supporting Clark and Hogan.

I agree hes been disappointing and I would try trade him in all likelihood, my point was more that if the American term bust be used that it be saved for genuine draft busts, Lucas Cook, for example who dont do anything at all.

I never understood why we got him in the first place.

Even when he was at C'wood it was clear he was not a good mark. (And he's gotten worse.)

He was going to be a big lump who takes the oppo's best or second best defender, makes a contest and brings the ball to ground.

Pedo can do that. Even Ben Holland used to be able to do that.

Why pay such big bikkies for such a player? We could have had three for the price.

I stopped posting to Demonland a year ago after being repeatedly ridiculed for saying Dawes wasn't up to it. Only Dazzledavey was there supporting the idea. Couldn't believe our luck when both Hogan and Watts missed this week and it would finally become clear as day why even Pedo would be superior in that role.

I personally think Dawes is probably one of the nicest guys at the club and would be a great influence around the playing group. That makes him a coaches dream and unfortunately Roos has continued to play him overlooking poor performance.

But if you want to score over 50 pointz a game we need everyone in the Fwd line to be fluent in their skills. Dawes can't mark.

Time to give Watts a trial by fire at CHF.

Watts is a facilitator who can kick goals himself and assist. Time for him to become a man and own the role. He was close to BOG v GC in Round one. Watts cannot shine with Dawes demanding the ball and wasting it. It's time Jack. (Or Pedo, just not Dawes!)

Hit the nail there, exactly what I've proposed too. Watts has been very underutilised in that role for years. The GC game was proof that he's capable.

Totally agree with this. Holland, Miller and even Sellar were three fairly unskilled footballers but who knew how to put themselves in the right positions and create opportunities for their teammates.

Dawes is rarely in the right position and, on the rare occasion he is, lets himself be moved out of the contest with the slightest contact.

He thinks he has done his job if he gets a few cheap possessions on the wing, or runs around like a headless chicken chasing opponents.

Sorry Chris, but less than a goal game is not good enough, and you would be at Casey if Roos had any balls.

Really? Did you try really hard to think why we would want a big bodied premiership player when we had Grimes and Trengive as Captains. And once you have answered that question please list the other premiership players that were queuing to com eto melbourne during that period.

There's a good boy now...

Can we take him off the Demonland banner? Every time I see it I want to punch his head in.

Mitch Morton...?

can't catch.

Couldn't mark a beach ball if he was on the beach by himself, unfortunately. Is it his shoulders?

I really like Dawes. He works hard, is physical and he's not a horrible kick. His marking makes him quite deficient though.

Watts isn't a strong mark either. Not sure that's such a great idea. Watts should be playing on a wing, IMO.

Chris flaps his hands at the ball whenever it comes nearby.

Looks like his trying to high 10 it every time.

Lets face it.

You are being unfair Biff. In my experience, such a result is just as likely in an Asian Brothel. Daisycutter's input could be definitive in this instance.

Also, SWYL has frequent trips to the Philippines and of course OD goes to Bangkok for "dental work" . Plenty of input to come

One more time for those a little slow on the uptake.

He's a key position forward who can't mark the ball.

Something of a handicap when your job is to kick goals and you can't get your mitts on the pill.

Very hard to disagree with that summation TF

Do they have a court in Bangkok?

Philippines has a very low rate of HIV. Less than .01%, and as far as other diseases go, the "hosts" or "dancers" in the bars, are vet checked weekly.

Anything else you want to know???

Then I take it you think it was a good idea that we threw two young kids to the wolves as joint Captains?

Name for me the leaders we had at our club at that point, Mr Revisionist, and then name for me the long list of big bodied premiership players that were queuing to join melbourne. Then we might see who is slow on the uptake.

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
