POST MATCH DISCUSSION - ROUND 1, 2015

Featured Replies

You and me both champ. I'll be there in full voice next week when we go 2-0.

What a great all round performance. Not just the win, but the way they played.

Still buzzing. Phone has gone off. The amber fluid will flow tonight.

Me too!

Why change the forward line

Dawes has going to have to train the house down this week

I've never been a Dawes fan. Show Dawes the door.

Dawesy will make the side. Just make him hungry for it.

We need big bodies up forward.

Holy [censored] that was awesome. Was a great team effort, they took the game on and played some really great attacking footy.

I was gonna start naming guys who had a good game but would end up naming the whole side! Only player who didn't play well was Toumpas, he had an absolute mare of a game. Felt really bad for him when he fumbled in front of goal and the crowd really gave it to him. I think it's all above the shoulders with him - he's still young and when it click (and I have faith it will) he's gonna be a very good player for us.

How good was Viney on Ablett? Watts up forward? All the new guys had rippers, super impressed with Brayshaw and vandenBerg.

Was Toumpas's whole game bad, or did he just have one major blunder that tarnished the view? I had it in my head that he had a shocker, but now that the emotion has worn off a fraction, the only thing I can remember is the stuff-up that Lumumba fixed. He touched it 6 times with 14% time on ground and now I'm starting to doubt myself.

Need to see the replay, I think.

maybe this is a very strong reason to not drop him. the team should get around & help him get thru this.

Agree. The sub is a hard gig. Shouldn't be too judgemental.

Just saw Vandenberg singing the song and he stood next to Garland and looked bigger than him.

He is going to be a hard match up, as he plays mid but also goes forward, where he can take a grab, kick a goal or assist.

Nup major blunder, too feeble at the ball, needs to play a year at Casey in the midfield and learn to win his own ball!

WHAT A WIN! GREAT EFFORT BY THE BOYS

THE GOOD

T.McDonald - I laughed when someone predicted that he would be AA this year but if he keeps this up he is every chance. He's a real general in the backline and has great hands. BOG for mine can't believe he wasn't named in the best.

Viney - I thought people were very harsh on him due to his costly clanger against the Dons. He was fantastic today, he looks like a gun tagger, they should keep him in that role.

Watts - The best game he has played for the club. He is just a really smart player, his tap to Garlett was superb.

Garlett - A real live wire, a great pick up for the Dees.

Jones - A typical game by the heart and soul of the club, captain courageous.

Howe - Didn't miss a beat back from injury, showed real composure.

THE BAD

Toumpas - We only had 1 bad player and that was him. I've never seen a player that lacks as much composure as this bloke. 2 of his handballs was school boy stuff thank god Vince will replace him but who will Dawes replace? I think JKH or Kent are going to be very unlucky.

Curry & Beer - He hasn't come on after his ridiculous comments he made on Brayshaw. Just cop the spray and admit your theory is wrong and get on with life.

I loved how he just gave a fend off and accelerated away a couple of times from from pressure to deliver a kick inside 50. I recall it happening at least twice, it might have been 3 times.

He had no fear in his first game, and more importantly no baggage.

maybe this is a very strong reason to not drop him. the team should get around & help him get thru this.

We need Vince tho....so who else can we drop?

Very strange. 12 marks and 26 touches was brilliant. Mopped up everything that came in and provided some decent rebound as well. 3 votes from me, I think he definitely had a better game than Howe, who was named in the best.

Toumpas can only play if he can do the job.

Up to him.

It's year number 3 and he has never played a game like our young recruits today.

Time to play at Casey for mine.

That was me. Believe I said that if I had to choose a Demon with the best shot at AA in 2015 I would pick T Mac

Tom Mc. BOG for mine.

16% DE. His handball on the wing when he passed it to no one when he had a teammate right next him was almost as bad as the handball that got smothered in the goal square.

To give him his due, he managed to get into the right place to receive the ball 10m out in the first place. Given that Ablett also messed up a handball/play in a similar position, not quite ready to throw Jimmy under a bus yet.

The mistake was because of lack of confidence, not lack of skills...i wouldn't look too much into it either...

Was lucky to have been selected, I dont think any Demonlander had him in their 22 for round 1

Wish we had played Viv Michie instead, he deserved a game

Some quirks from today:

1. Our greatest winning margin since Round 4, 2013.

2. Our highest score since Round 4, 2013.

3. Including Prestia, we had the top 5 possession winners on the ground.

I could go on, but I loved the way we played. The quick way we moved the ball - what team were we watching? It helps having the cattle to pull that off. Full marks to the recruiting team for not only adding quality players but adding guys who can use the ball and take the game on.

I've watched the Lumumba goal several times. Spine-tingling.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
