Watch the Essendon supporters start saying " but everyone else is doing it, why are we singled out"

Apparently he tested positive after the Rd. 17 game and was allowed to continue playing for the rest of the year which also included 2 finals. That's poor from the AFL.

If he goes for 2 years you would think his career is well and truly over as he will be 33 when the ban would finish.

Agreed, what if freo had won the premiership? we'd now be dealing with a situation where it had to be stripped because they had a player who didn't qualify.

Really poor from if true about round 17. AFL needs to cut this kind of crap out.

A poster on bigfooty said that these tests need to be verified once a result is in and it takes time.

Not sure how reliable that is but it might explain the delay.

Another poster pointed out that Freo lost to the Saints the week after, with several players out with 'flu'.

abc article implies it is not a performance drug but an illicit drugs under he 3 strikes ploicy

Crowley becomes the second AFL player to record three strikes under the league's drug policy.

Sounds worse.

I find it impossible to believe that someone with his experience and on 2 strikes would go and take pain killers without telling anyone.

Much more to this story IMO.

I'm not sure who is reporting that he's on 3 strikes now but this has nothing to do with that policy.

This is a banned substance not an illicit/recreational one. There are no strikes when it comes to banned substances - take one on the list and you're probably gone.

Not sure if RGRS was looking at the same article that I was, but the ABC inititally in their reporting of this actually stated that Crowley would be the second player after Travis Tuck to be struck out on the 3 strikes policy.

They have since changed that article to be more 'accurate'

The blase approach to drugs by AFL footballers is another reason why ASADA and WADA need to impose significant penalties on Essendon.

You must be joking?

I wasn't, although I believe the club didn't get the results until September, so that probably explains it.

Yeah initial indication on a dip stick then time for blood test 6-8 weeks later. Pretty much normal.

Gee no leaking out of FReo since he was issued an Show Cause in September......

Wonder if Essendon will blame the AFL for this too....

Rightly or wrongly 'provisional suspension' is voluntary. The AFL and a Club's own Integrity Unit (technically) cannot tell the club management/coaches who the player is.

Ess players also chose date to activate their (voluntary) 'provisional suspension'...such are the rules!

Edit: I would bet that a player who thinks he is innocent (ala Ess players) would not opt to take (voluntary) 'provisional suspension' if it was 'in-season'!

According to ASADA certain 'specified substances' don't require provisional suspensions and in fact you can keep playing until the tribunal hearing.

It sounds like Crowley was in that situation hence the voluntary provisional suspension he's taken after the end of the season.

To be honest, let's wait and see exactly what he's taken and the performance enhancing side effects. If it's something minor like a Warnie situation then give him a few weeks off and get on with things.

A minor breach of the doping laws due to stupidity deserves a minor punishment.

Completely different to systematic doping.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
