  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

RE: Kent.

He would not have been dropped - that's not Roosy way with his senior players and Lent is one of those.

He is either:

1) Injured and the club don't wish to discuss how he got injured.

2) Disciplined: You have to remember he was heading back home, which is where trouble sometimes follows.

Look forward to reading definitive reason.

Or it may just be he had a poor game and they want to try someone else in his spot.

Sometimes the answer is the most obvious.

If it walks like a duck etc.

??????...Kent is one of the most disciplined players in the squad, you would need to explain this, but then again don't bother

And he even looked like a clean-cut kid until he tried to emulate his skipper with the tatts!

Got there at 10:30 watched most of the next 90 minutes with a trip to the cafe and lap of the Olympic park precinct in between.

Non football related notes:

- It looks like someone had an abortion in one of the public toilets near AAMI Park, horrendous mess

- AAMI park plays this music softly through speakers around the stadium, has an Indigenous theme. A waste of money and noise pollution

- Above the ticket sales windows at AAMI is a sign telling patrons to buy tickets online and instructions to use the wifi provided - take note Etihad

- 10mil of Collingwood's 25 mil development is from the Government, for benefits such as 'safe facilities for women', a community gym and a new cafe complete with bicycle rack

- Melbourne don't get their logo on the AAMI park sign board, I get we don't play at the ground but would it kill them?

- You can peer in to the Demons offices if you're tall enough and the same for the Pies along batman avenue. I stared at some of their employees, hoping to annoy them

- My coffee at Edwins this morning was terrible

Football related:

What I saw today was incredibly poor. No way to sugar coat it sorry.

In a handball drill going up and down the wing with at least 1 if not 2 extra attackers than defenders the ball hit the deck all the time. 5 times in one up and down. Simon Goodwin wasn't afraid to call them on it thankfully.

Then in a similar kicking drill with approx 8 v 7 (could've been 10v9 or 9v8) starting from 30m out for goal and aiming to get a shot on goal with token defensive pressure the turnovers were horrendous.

JKH had 3 by himself when sprinting off from half back, burning free players and trying to hit leading forwards in amognst a sagging defence.

The quote from Roos 'I'll keep dropping 3 back if you keep kicking it to them' to the group. As well as the bemused look on his face when asking Ben Matthews whether they were aware they had the numerical advantage.

Jones and Grimes eventually called all the players in a had a chat. Then they asked for 5 more minutes to get it right and it improved. Simply they had to use the width of the field and spread the ball to the free man around the midfield arc once they had worked the ball up. After they did that enough times a defender would get out of place and a good kick in to the forward line was marked. Anyone who knows anything about soccer with 11 v 10 would recognise the tactic. Unfortunately for whatever reason our players seem incredibly dull.

Sam Frost did ruck drills (Fitzy as well but Pedersen didn't). Plenty of goal kicking at the end as well. I really get the feeling he's under consideration for a forward +/- ruck role, even if only as a swingman or after a sub.

No Dean Kent. Hogan as others have mentioned, did most of the session.

Bernie Vince can't be far off. Back training with the jumper on not the training top. Plenty of kicking as well as running. Practising getting up off the ground and in to a tackle as well.

At the end of the session Roos, Goodwin and a strange mix of players had a long chat on the oval in a circle as others wandered off or had shots on goal - Gawn, Watts, Vince, Tyson, Tom McDonald, Newton, Jetta, Viney, van den Berg. Couldn't work it out. Looked pretty serious (or at least not just chat for the sake of it) but at the same time Jones and Brayshaw continued their shoot out and Salem was messing around with shots on goal as well. Interesting.

Then he'd be training wouldn't he? Misses training and not named in the squad. Off field stuff is a chance, but not worth guessing about. Injury, illness or soreness are the likely things and if he's still missing next week I guess we'll find out then.

Thanks for the heads-up on Edwin's coffee (and the cleanliness of the toilets used by the rugby league rabble)!

It was just a general footy chat, I asked, because of the mixed group

Agreed some of it was shithouse today,

He's more potential that what he has actually put out there so far but if you don't rate Kent then I worry about who you do rate. He attacks the ball and the man, has speed and whilst he needs to tidy it up a bit he can kick.

Same. I could only think he was deliberately being patient and hoping it was a case of the players figuring it out for themselves would have more benefit than him blowing his stack.

No, there is nothing to explain. The poster made a statement with caution - a totally reasonable hypothesis - and ended it with acknowledging a need for more information.

Yes perhaps you're right, I liked the way he stood back when Jones and Grimes called them in, they have to take ownership.

Best bit of fun with Roos rucking, Ben Mathews throwing the ball in, Goodwin coaching, N.Jones/Viney/Newton/Vandenberg/Cross/Lumumba battling for the ball, and McCartney offering comments from the peanut gallery

I remember reading an article a couple of years ago where Grimes' Melbourne teammates were making fun of him for how diligent he was in his recovery from an injury. It made my blood boil that he was made fun of for doing what should be standard.

Good to hear more stories of player-driven change.

Yes but he said it would take the next three years, we are now starting to see the difference, when you speak to the players they can't speak highly enough of the fitness staff now, all are feeling stronger, faster and can maintain the rage for a lot longer

Think il wait for the real games before i judge the fitness levels

but i can't help it

howe has not trained with the main group yet since he did hamstring

becoming a very long hamstring for a young fella

doesn't look he'll be right for round 1

that's what i'm reading into it

Yes I forgot you would be taking the "nothing is wrong view" on this.

However I did come up with a couple more options that weren't included initially that would meet your approval.

Family reason:

Sickness (I did suggest injury, but illness is quite prevalent at this time of year).

I never understood the rationale of Misson's comment. A bottom club would turnover between 22-30 players in 3 years. By the third year, half the players on the list wouldn't be at the club. Darren Burgess at Port Adelaide was able to markedly change their fitness levels in 12 months by increasing workloads from day 1.

Lent (Latin: Quadragesima - English: Fortieth) is a solemn religious observance in the liturgical calendar of many Christian denominations that begins on Ash Wednesday and covers a period of approximately six weeks before Easter Sunday ..... so perhaps Kent decided to give up playing until after Easter Sunday!

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
