FAREWELL JEREMY HOWE

Featured Replies

The only question is whether we're trying to get a player or a pick in return, and if the latter then what will we demand? Inside the top 10?

Don't think we'd seriously expect a pick inside the 10. Howe's worth a late 1st to early 2nd rd pick. Think the article in the Hun mentioned that GC have an activated end of 1st rd compo pick this year, which would seem to be around the mark.

If that were the deal, I could see us on trading that pick, possibly as part of a Tom Lynch deal.

Well the club should be doing something about that.

prescribing the money but deducting amounts from the payment for non performance, someone suggested players paying members fees, who knows creative stuff that may make the players wake up that they too can be creative and maybe that this is serious maybe that they must GAF.

Do you want all of our players to leave?

Imagine if someone said that to you at your work? You'd be out the door like a shot..

should have rested howe this week and make sure he is up for the giants game, maybe the team can chip in and give him some cheap possessions so it makes his stats look a lot better!

Rumours flying around that we're into Lachie Plowman, Howe for Plowman?

Howe for Lynch at Adelaide?

Howe and a pick for Bennell?

I reckon Howe is worth about pick 20-25

If u want 2 have father son option why drop him on 98. He will now play his 99th game there's no way they will drop him for last game. It would be so short sighted.

Howe & pick 6 for Plowman & Tomlinson.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Plowman didn't play a game this year.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

That's overs for those two. Howe could be a straight swap for Tomlinson, so you're essentially swapping pick 6 for a guy who has hardly got on the park.

I don't think it is.

Each to their own, but draft picks can easily be overvalued and players undervalued.

I'd do Howe & our 2nd round pick for Tomlinson & Plowman, but no way our first round pick.

I think we are looking at recruiting Plowman as half back who can roll into a midfielder liked David Mundy.

This is a big reason why Todd Viney is a big fan of him.

He is a keen Melbourne supporter too.... i know.. doesn't mean anything.

Howe is massively overated!!\ Plus!!!

Takes a grab not much else.

Meh

Offer him 350 ish and if he walks .... So be it!

Howe & pick 6 for Plowman & Tomlinson.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

That's ridiculous. You're basing their talent levels on where they were drafted, not their deeds at AFL level.

Personally, I don't want either of them. I wan't a legitimate classy mid or a key forward.

What do we trade for Prestia then? ;)

Howe has more value to teams like GCS or GWS because he is marketable, he is a unique player and so because of that factor he is worth a bit more than what his playing ability alone probably is, I wouldn't be surprised to see Brisbane lions join in the chase in a big way.

We'd want his preferred destination to be a northern state where he has more value, and I pick him as being the sort of bogan who likes the sounds of QLD.

I think some are overrating the value of pick 6, in this draft especially.

I'm particularly unenthused about the options this year.

Reiterated by Hardwick.....shallow draft.

A good year for Carlton to stock up on draft picks or as some media report a treasure trove of draft picks.

So now he is a bogan???

Good Lord Some people speak drivel

I have put his stats up before.....I would hate to lose him.

Seriously, is there any doubt?

He's like a dictionary definition.

I don't think that's offensive either, he just perfectly fits the type.

Yes agreed. So let's do a break down of a typical list. Salary estimates based on 2015 AFLPA CBA. Google it for details.

Cap $9.9 million

4 rookies: total $220K

4 1st year draftees: total $260K

4 2nd year draftees: total $280K

4 on minimum base payments: total $324K

Total for 16 players: $1.1 million

Match payments listed as $3500 per game min for min salary players. 2nd year draftees can earn up to $5100 per game. For others it is negotiable. Let's assume $5000 average, which is probably under estimating.

Yearly match payments: $2.5 million

Total so far: $3.6 million

Near and fairest bonuses? Let's assume 300K for ease.

So the remaining 24 players have $6 million between them.

The average salary of the remaining player is then $250K.

Let's assume the top 5 get $700K.

Then the average remaining salary is $131K.

Even if we change it to 4 rookies, 8 draftees and 10 minimum salary instead. Inc match payments and b&f: $4.4 million for 22 players leaving $300k for each of the remaining 18.

Or $155K each of the top 5 get $700K each.

So tell me again why Howe should earn $550,000 or more?

Most of the senior contract players don't get match payments, they are paid a salary of x weather they play or not. Fairly sure the bonuses also come under a different banner as the cap has two levels, one for the salaries and a slightly higher total for the 'extras'.

Im not overrating pick 6. I think if we go to the draft with it we will come away with more quality.

Adding to that there's roughly 5 quality KPP players this year that will most likely go top 15 with the possibility of two of them going within the first couple of picks. Leaving us with a quality midfielder. Our last two drafts have good.

Aren't we on track for pick 5?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
