Stevo just reported that MFC said it would take Collingwood a lot more than a straight swap for Kennedy to get Howe.

Lets see if Buckley is going to turn his bravo/kudos tweet about respectful trading between 2 clubs into behaviour.

Anything less than Kennedy + pick 27 and i'll be filthy. Time for us to play hardball

This would still be a poor deal for us...and that's not hardball.

If we want to really improve our list it's pick 3 and nothing less, this gives us the currency to go to the draft or pull off a good trade.

Does anyone know "The Rule on Restricted Free Agency" pertaining to this situation?

Ch 7 reported after speaking to Melbourne IF he chooses Collingwood it will take alot more than a straight swap for Kennedy. It inferred we have a deal agreed in principle with Suns if he chooses there.

Ah, I'm so relieved to hear this.

We need to look at Howe and Collingwood and Seedsman to GC as one trade. I'm sure you can all work out a way we get Kennedy and pick 3 in that scenario =)

Tis not over yet.

He's not a RFA so it doesn't pertain to this situation.

I just don't see GC agreeing to it without a sweetener, like an extra 2nd or third rounder. Seedsman ain't worth the downgrade from 3 to 6.

Would we go from 3 to 6 to get Kennedy? Doubt it.

Of course depending on the player Gold Coast want at 3, if they think they can him at 6 then they essentially get Seeds for free.

If friggin' Redden is worth pick 17 and Henderson worth a first rounder then Howe is comfortably worth a first rounder.

Um no. Redden is a solid as a rock as a defensive inside mid. Henderson has a long career ahead of him as a CHB once settled in position.

Howe's leaving because teams hope they can fix his issues and make him in to a good half forward flank. His talent is worth a fair bit, but so many insipid performances at either end of the ground detract from it.

20-25 is probably fair. Any other deal we do is about getting that kind of value.

Howe for Kennedy ???

This club is as weak as [censored]

No, your comprehension skills are what sucks.

The club has already said the Pies will need to offer a lot more than Kennedy to get the deal done.

If you could read or pay attention you would know that.

Jamie Elliott is a fair swap, 72 games 100 goals vs 100 games and 80 goals with one year in defence and of course "elite" running and standards. I think I would rather force howe to Carlton then get screwed by either Collingwood or Essendon (Melksham). Or worse, listen to Bruce gush over the Elliott Howe magnificence on Friday night football - not bitter about pies perpetual easy draws

Seriously mate, have a look and a good think before you post.

So you will not be surprised when its just a straight swap and MFC cave in right?

We get Collingwood to come up with something to send to the Suns in Howe's place.

Simple!

Something like

GC gain: Seedsman, Pick 6 (From Melb) Pick 25 (From Melb)
Coll gain: Howe, Pick 22 (From GC)
Melb gain: Kennedy, Pick 3 (From GC), Pick 44 (From Coll)

Seems pretty fair all round

Melbourne:

Pick 6 = 1751

Howe (pick 20) = 912

pick 25 = 756

pick 44 = 362

Collingwood

Kennedy (pick 35) = 522

Seedsman (pick 40) = 429

pick 26 = 729

pick 45 = 347

Gold Coast

pick 3 = 2234

pick 35 = 522

pick 41 = 412

Howe + pick 44 = 912 + 362 = 1274

Kennedy + 26 = 522 + 729 = 1251

6 + 26 = 1751+729 = 2480

3 + 41 = 2234+412 = 2646

My player values are just a rough guide. But adding up the points I think we can trade Howe, pick 6 and 44 and come back with Kennedy, pick 3 and 41. Though we might need to convince Gold Coast to deal before they worry about Seedsman that might be difficult. It all depends on how keen they are on picking up an upgrade in the 2nd round. Given they will likely get pick 10 to go with 16 and 19 I'm not sure they'll be all that keen.

But it also highlights why it takes so long to get deals done. So many clubs are waiting on one deal to fall before they can work on the next one. I imagine that if Gold Coast do end up with picks 10, 16 and 19 that St Kilda will come calling with pick 5.

Seedsman and pick ~25 to drop 3 spaces in the first round? GC could then package their second rounders for a first rounder. Not a bad deal overall.

It all depends on how much we want Parish though; it'll likely cost us Howe, pick 6 and pick 25 for a return of pick 3, Kennedy and Bugg/Melksham/Rosa.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
