F I loved the "no positive tests" line from Sheedy. F the whole thing, it's bat chit as usual:

There has never been a positive drug test, can you tell me whats going on in this country? That means if you are near a bank got robbed you could be up for robbing a bank, said Sheedy.

You know as well as I do that when you go and get a (flu) injection, how do you know what is in the thing. That is the problem with the whole case.

How about a waiver form?!

I took some time to look back at all the articles and news about this, and it was pretty interesting.

I wonder if some people forget that essendon self reported to kick this whole thing off.

The people in charge at the time come across as repentant and sorry.The club reported that they weren't sure what was happening with the injections.

Jobe Watson said he signed a consent form saying he was going to take one particular injection, but was told it was ok to take.

These people who wanted the best for the club stood down.

Then after that happened, essendon and hird seemed to take on a more militant and attacking tact ending up in the courts etc... and here we are now with hird and co saying they didnt take anything illegal and didn't do anything wrong.

The people who stood down seemed to think what happened was wrong.

I can't see how the players will not get banned .. best case they dealt in a massive grey area - worst case took illegal substances. It's not like the substances involved are vitamin b either.

Do you guys think any of the early articles and news still stands up? If it does, I think they they are in big trouble. It's been so long since it began, I worry people may have forgotten how dodgy it was at the start.

I loved this line from Warner the Wally in the article linked above:

He has stopped bothering with any pretense that he is not a mouthpiece for EFC. Now he is giving evidence for the prosecution (ie in the fantasy case where the players sue the AFL)

By the way the Gil v Alan Jones interview in that article is hilarious. Jones is unbelievable. Attack from the get go and accusing ASADA of corruption. Wow

Quite frankly, Essendon, some sections of the media and the AFL boys club believe when it comes to drugs in sport....they are different to the rest of the sports world and they also believe in being treated in a parallel universe on this subject.

Sheedy mouthing off suggesting it's everyone else fault is just the latest example.

Nothing BUT nothing will change my now held view that Hird and his comrades have forever stained the game through his win at all costs thinking. As for Essendon ...their biggest mistake was keeping him on.

If points were counted for games vs GWS and Gold Coast in their first couple of years they will count vs a depleted Essendon too

Quite frankly its a ridiculously slanted view.

There's always going to be weak teams. In this instance Essendon becomes one. Thats all.

I am curious Geelong keep popping up suggesting we're worse off without Essendon.

I think they do protest too much.


This is the ultimate red herring and based on the fact that the AFL are the ultimate employer (or at least a co-signatory to each playing contract. Therefore they are responsible for what happened at Essendon. Ridiculous. They are clinging to the fact that the AFL clubs are ultinmately owned by the AFL.

Sugggest they haven't read the Collective Bargaining Agreement that the players sign up to....

29. SAFE WORKING ENVIRONMENT 29.1 Each AFL Club, as the employer of Players, has obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety legislation in the respective States to take all reasonable steps to protect the health and safety of Players at work. Each AFL Club shall set up appropriate workplace consultative procedures involving Players and other employees consistent with relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation to progress health and safety issues.

And

“Player” means a player of Australian Football who is or becomes contracted with an AFL Club and is or becomes listed with the AFL as a Player with an AFL Club.

“Standard Playing Contract” means the form of contract, as agreed between AFL and AFLPA, for the employment of a Player by an AFL Club to play Australian Football.

And in any case if the players have taken something illegal they are in breach of their contract regardless of the circumstances.

Maybe they should still count the 4 points, but the percentage resulting from the scores should either be devalued or not counted at all.

Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

    Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
