Pre Season Draft

The 5 that I've listed are gone and have been replaced. We are yet to here anything official about Blease or Strauss but I'm sure they are gone. Tapscott not as sure. Evans, less sure as he's contracted. Anyone else like McKenzie or Trengove is complete speculation.

I don't think it will be long for Blease and Strauss to be official. That's pick 2 and 3. Everything after that I presume will take time over the next 2 weeks.

Does anyone know about Georgiou? Will Frost coming in and the likelihood of a tall at one of the top picks, combined with Pedersen being a versatile option I don't see much point in keeping him. At the same time I understand he did a good job for us early last year.

Georgiou is definitely worth keeping. He looked really good early. He's 24, give him a solid 2 years at VFL and he could be a permanent 22. Far better to drop Tapscott, Blease, Strauss before Alex

What have you seen in him that says best 22 though? He's still an undersized unskilled key defender. Good teams don't carry 3rd or 4th tall options that don't rebound the ball or play well on small defenders. If we were in a premiership window you'd keep him like Cheney was kept at the Hawks for so long. But since he isn't we could use the list space to develop another player.

As I said earlier, still don't think we'll use this pick.

We've lost Clark, Frawley, Byrnes, Clisby and Nicholson replacing them with Lumumba, Garlett, Frost, Stretch and Jetta to be upgraded which gives us just one rookie spot available.

Delist Blease, Tapscott and Strauss allows us to use picks 2, 3 and 40 and also delisting Georgiou gives us a 2nd rookie pick. If we then delist Evans but re-draft him with our last rookie pick if no one else picks him up like we did with Newton and Meesen then that allows us to use pick 53.

I don't see us getting anyone in the PSD of note that we wont be able to land in the national draft. Also we must be planning on using it, otherwise we'd have not worried about having pick 53 added to the trade.

Also I don't like the idea of delisting contracted players. Don't see it as a good way of attracting players from other clubs to come play for us. At worst you move them onto the rookie list, but just sacking them with no behaviour issues is a dangerous thing to start doing IMO.

So far we have 0 list spots.

And picks 2, 3, 40, 53, PSD 2.

Unless we get to 4 delistings we wont use it.

So far I can only see 3 delistings - Blease, Strauss, Tapscott

Evans?

If we don't get one in the draft I think a ruckman is needed to replace Jamar/add depth...will wait to see list of DFA's before picking a prospect

Roos' specialty...getting big men when they are ready to go but not at too high a price!

This is a little bit of a myth, people keep talking about Roos specialties or what Roos likes or does and it's not often the truth of his actions. This trade period is a prime example where people over inflated their expectations based on Roos specialty and Roos doesn't take kids added to some rubbish rumours.

Sydney picked up Jason Ball for picks 11 & 41, Jolly for pick 15 and Mumford was the bargain at pick 28. These were solid players and paid for with a solid price, no real bargain basement deals but they were ready to go.

They put some thought into him...but only to make us pull the trigger early. They were always taking Membrey

The small paper reported that Swans would have taken a late pick for Membrey thus leaving Frost available at PSD 1 for the Saints.

The anguish over the use of 23 for Frost is amusing. Go back to the Hannath thread where we going to Rookie but missed out because Freo jumped in.

"Geez the club is stupid - should have used an earlier pick on Hannath instead we let Freo get in before us"

"Geez the club is stupid - why do we use an earlier pick to grab Frost"

Damned if you, damned if you don't.

Im not damnng them. its not a game of chicken.. its for keeps.. The numbers are so relative. Did we have a shopping list.....did we get most of it...etc Thats what matters

He can beat his man. More than a lot in our team.

You're right if course. And Hannath has done what exactly at Freo??

NADA

And maybe because of the hannath example the club jumped early.

I have NO issue what so ever with delisting contracted players - Evans & McKenzie. They are not up to AFL standard IMO and the new administration has every right to banish the mistakes made by the previous regime. Will they be here on the list in 2016 - 90% says no.

Thank them for there service, pay them out and recruit well. I would much rather have a Burbury, Robinson, Hunt, Brown , Petrenko on our list busting there guts on a one year deal then these 2 spuds.

We wanted him - some risk that we may not get him - we jumped.

Irrespective how Hannath has gone this scenario is the same.

Im wondering if Lyons wasnt the one we had in mind. Hes saying put now so might change what we do ...to psd or not to psd

Raid Geelong: Burbury, Schroder, Stringer.

Yeah they'll be really [censored] off that we're 'raiding' their delistees.

Was looking at Aaron Edwards but had no idea he was 30 years old. I was going to guess 25-26.

Anyone but Leroy Jetta.

Seriously, anyone at all.

Taylor Hunt delisted by the Cats. Worth to pick up in the PSD at #2?

He can be picked up in Delisted FA by any club.

  • 1 month later...

Is the list complete or do we have room to take an additional player in the pre season draft?

Unless we delist a contracted player the senior list is complete.

We have 2 free spots on the rookie list .

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
