    Agree. Let him play a couple of years in a state league to see if he's actually got what it takes.

    I would treat him like any other player trying to make it at AFL level, and he'd have to earn a position on our list on merit.

    Wonder what Roos views are on this, and Goodwin too, as he'll be the coach from the end of next season. Did they see enough in Dom to persist or will they pass? As our depth improves, competition for spots on our list increases, which is always a good thing. Can he rise to this challenge... How old is Dom now, 22, 23?

    True mo, except we have pretty good knowledge already of what his ability, strengths and weaknesses are from his time on our list, and he's probably still good mates with many of the guys, he'd slip back in smoothly. If he's good enough and in the right frame of mind to go again, I reckon Roos might not leave him in state league for two years. If the answer is yes, I think he'd be rookied next year.

    I doubt that he can make it at this stage, but if Roos and Godwin think he's worth a rookie spot I'll happily accept their judgement. I thought Nev didn't have much of a future at MFC in his first couple of years.

    I'm presuming we were happy with how Dom was progressing because his contract had been extended not all that long before Dom stepped away.

    Hmmmm hard not be spooked when we have lost previous players to the NT. We trust in the coaching staff who look to have a solid committed playing group now, but geez I can't help but think if we rookied him and he didn't break into the side, he might give up again. I actually thought he showed a bit and was coachable with run with roles. hmmm interesting dilemma.

    You look at the signs of a Vandenburg who did everything possible to get on an AFL list, I lean towards guys who would run through brick walls just to get a chance.

    Always liked Dom. Had dash and a bit of mongrel, just always wondered about his skills when faced with the speed of AFL. Think he's a great size, age, and body type for a rookie though, would be worth at least talking to and putting on the permission to train list.

    Can he be put on that list and train with us during the year or is it only for off season?

    Exactly this, I reckon we'd likely rookie him if he's shown a commitment to stay in shape & sharp since he left. He'd probably be given a 1 year chance & if he makes it, awesome, we could use his pace, if he doesn't I don't see how it costs us anything much. Given we re-signed him for the next 2 or 3 years before he quit, we obviously thought he was a chance to go on & make it before he left. I think he's only 21 this year....... I trust the current FD's decision either way here, we haven't got much wrong lately.

    Nah can't do it during the season (I don't think). The permission list is during the offseason/pre-draft I believe, although I'm sure there'd be some way he could just rock up voluntarily?

    I haven't seen him play but if the club left the door open, cool.

    I don't see any trait in Barry meeting that requirement.

    It was on the Marngrook footy show, I watch that instead of the other drivel, he was interviewed in Alice Springs, playing with the NT Thunder in NEAFL and working at a college.

    Also it was stated that MFC is still supporting him, and providing advice on diet and training regimen (this was interviewer who said that not Dom)

    I put this at the time, because Dom wasn't initiated, he was regarded as a child still, he needed to go home and reconnect with his people, that done, and bravo for the club for sticking by him, he wants another crack, when he left, the club stated he would be welcomed back

    Double bravo to the club. We thought he was good enough for a spot previously so why not give it a try we can find out if he is good enough. Vanders wasn't good enough until 22.

    The club may see something in him for the future, but that's yet to be seen.

    Vanders wasn't drafted earlier because he didn't look committed enough to fitness. Some blokes just aren't ready pre 21, it took him to be overlooked & work hard to get his chance later on at 22/3. Dom may have just needed this time to do the same & now knows what he's missing out on. I trust the club is all over this & make the right call.

    I have nothing against Dom but he had his chance and threw it away. He's simply not a good enough footballer for us to take him back.

    Great point. I look at some of the players still on our list, and ask the same question. It's no coincidence that they're playing at Casey.

    Rookie spots are still a huge investment. I don't think that Barry showed any more than what some of our existing rookies, and until he's got some current form to gauge, I wouldn't be gifting him a spot on our list.

They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

      Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans.Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG.       For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

      The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
