Mitch Robinson - Delisted FA?

Featured Replies

So just to be clear, when he is assaulted he is not entitled to defend himself, or he is not entitled to be out in nightclubs? Or both?

Saying that the fact he is not the instigator is "besides the point" purely because he's a sportsman is, on its own, a crazy thing to say.

No doubt the mean man in the nightclub just started throwing fists around at poor, innocent Mitch, and Mitch had no choice but to deck him in self defence.

I know there is two sides to every story, and I accepted that sometimes people get jumped, but the vast majority of fights I've seen while out have involved two or more very willing participants.

We could do a hell of a lot worse than Robinson. Gets a lot of the ball and is as hard as a cats head. Sure, he comes with a parole officer but I'd welcome both.

I've been involved in a nightclub fight where I was anything but a willing participant.

We don't know the facts. Bottom line.

The discussion should focus on what he can bring ON the field, but I realise that's a vain hope.

I would have no problems with this if we were a Hawthorn, Sydney or Geelong where a Joel Selwood or Luke Hodge would be able to pull Mitch's coat if he was being a deadhead. At the clubs, Mitch wouldn't be a guiding light.
Jeff Garlett might be considered a fairly spicy meatball but I think both Mitch and Jeff are too risky a proposition for a club with such an inherently weak culture. We all saw what the influence that Beamer and Col had on the group. To reintroduce that 'party boy' element again would be dangerous.
Don't want to sound too harsh P-Man but what you are saying sounds like the same excuses that were made for Col Sylvia after his numerous indiscretions.

It may sound like I'm making excuses for him. Not my intention. What I'm saying is a) I don't know the bloke, and b) every individual incident has its own set of circumstances that I don't know.

Look at the comments in this thread. Is it really unthinkable that he has a target on his back when he goes out? Some cretinous thug would thump him and have a story to tell his cretinous mates for the rest of his life, to a round of high fives. The guy who thumped Robbo! Buy that man a beer!

I'm not going to join the chorus of torch bearers in labelling him a DH. If that's excuse making, so be it.

He's a young guy whose obviously made some questionable decisions along the way. He has a young family now and people deserve a chance to mature and make good. Including him.

Fair enough. Don't rate him as a footballer either - the DH thing is just an incidental thing for me.

He just got a kid. Surely he will knuckle down if he wants to support his family...

He had the child when he was out until 5am when he got into a fight. Now im not saying he isnt allowed out but if I was his partner I wouldn't be impressed with him being out until then when u have a newborn.

I dont think we need him and especially with Gartlett there. Keep them away from each other. Besides he probably doesnt want to come to our club. Maybe he should have signed the contract he got offered mid year instead of saying no and holding out for more money. Sort of backfired on him a bit.

Ignoring his off the field issues, he's massively overrated on the field.

An absolute no.

I agree, just a player and a completely loose cannon off the field.

Poor skills but hard supposedly. But we have/had Tapscott who I reckon is a real hard nut wrecking ball. So no I don't want him.

There is no supposedly about it Mitch Robinson is as hard as nails, Tapscott has not delivered and Robinson has delivered at AFL level.

He would be on very low money and I would take him, 1 year contract which automatically triggers a second year if he plays a certain amount of games

you dont need to be a rocket scientist to know that Mitch's career is hanging by a thread. If he was picked up there would obviously be clauses in his contract regarding behavior, and incentives or a couple more years should he be good. He is hard at the contest and gets the opposition player and sometimes the ball, he would be a much better asset than quite a few on our list. i think he would certainly be worth the risk, after all its his career that is in jeopardy should he fail.

I dont think Roosy will take him but it's a yes from me - a great example of how hard we need to go .

Was that supposed to be impressive? He would have a more entertaining 'bloopers' video out there surely?!?

I g'tee we won't bother picking him up, if we wanted him we could've already done it for a bag of chips with Garlett, it was reported we looked into both at the start of trade period, obviously Garlett committed to coming to us & whatever interest we may or may not have had in Robbo would've ceased there imo. You recruit maybe one of these types in an offseason, not 2. Garlett has much greater upside than him & I'd rather Robbo's potential spot in our 22 go to blokes like Kent, Salem, JKH, Picks 2, 3 etc, we have enough better character senior players plus Roos to guide them along with young guns Viney & Tyson.

Robbo will not be a difference maker for us. The experienced recruits in Lumumba & Garlett could be however, they've shown and achieved a lot more in the past.

Lastly, I know quite a few current Carlton boys very well due to their regular dining habits at a well known Carlton restaurant they frequent. He really is a DH in person, of the highest & dumbest order. Plain as day if you ever get the pleasure to get to know the man.

Would've loved to get him on the list but getting Jeffy vetoed it.

I think they both need a fresh environment to have a chance of working out any off-field issues and for them to be recruited by the same club would only be detrimental.

To be honest, I was surprised he didn't find a new home during trade week. I would have thought Richmond might have been interested. But that the he didn't suggests that either (a) he's not as good a footballer as I thought or (b) just not good enough to overcome the concerns associated with his off field problems.

A number of posters question whether off field matters. It does. Clubs have limited resources (personnel and money) and if they have to spend too much on one player it reduces resources available to other players. North Melbourne allegedly engaged a minder to accompany Wayne Carey - but there's a big difference in looking after one of the best players the competition has ever seen and a player of questionable skills and quality.

??

Just my view would be he's possibly worth a punt but not worth using up any trade currency for. he's a 'freebie"

Robinson apparently is heading to Brisbane which only serves to strengthen my extreme dislike for the Lions.

should we now turn our attention to Taylor Hunt? Has officially been delisted by Geelong

no... no we shouldn't

Yep. According to our dear friend Sam Edmund, he's going to Brisbane on a 2-year deal. Good news for Melbourne supporters at last.

He's a psycho. Even his teammates hated him Better to eat razor blades.

Nup Nup Nup !! Even though I did entertain the idea Nup !

Another coup for the Brisbane Lions.

They've just recruited a player with half Stef Martin's IQ

Entertain the idea? If you were managing our list we would not have Tyson and Salem, instead we'd have Mitch Robinson.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
