Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In all honesty, if we win 4 games again next year, would you expect that to appeal to Nathan Jones and other free agents? Nope.

With the changing landscape of the AFL, we need to become competitive, fast.

Someone finally gets it.

Finally a post with some actual critical thinking. These trades are not made lightly, MFC know what they are doing this time around. Good Post.

Can you please divulge some more details?

Perhaps how close this source is. How close they are to the club?

Perhaps jot down your adress? So if it doesn't come to fruition I can hunt you down and slap your silly face.

Wow. Firstly, thanks Ryan for posting this. A bit of food for thought after a bleak day. I'll treat this as if it's true for the sake of this post. The thought of having a star like Kennedy at the club is exciting, and yes, the price is enormous and scary. I'm astonished that it'd be pick 39 coming back rather than their first rounder, but that's practically small fry when giving up 2 AND 3.

With a deal like this you are going to have to pay overs. You're not going to be able to bowl up to a good club looking for a contracted star with an offer that they look at and say "Yes, that's an equal swap". It's got to be that offer they can't refuse.

While pound for pound the deal clearly favours Sydney, I will be happy if it goes through. We are seeing football list building changing, and with players having increasing say in where they go, having a good and attractive side for players to come to is crucial. Obviously the offer to Kennedy would be massive and that along with Roos would be contributing factors to him coming, so money is still big. I do believe that we can't continue to wait like fools to become good, draft after draft, while losing our best players to free agency every year.

If this helps us win a few more games next year, helps the development of the kids, and helps attract someone like Dangerfield next year, then maybe in a broader sense it won't be overs in the long run.

Ps: I cant wait for Barrett to say "we have gone mad, first the tyson deal and now this!" It will be gold to listen to.

Pps: I should declare a conflict of interest, living in Sydney stealing one of their players will make my life a bit more bearable up here.

MFC supporters at 1:55pm Thursday when no trades have happened:

Hmmm I'm getting older and grumpier!

2 and 3 and Roos can GAGF.

Get A Grand Final, now that I like!

Agree. 39 would get us Frost. So it's 2 and 3 for Kennedy and Frost.

That worries me greatly as we are effectively putting all our eggs in one basket for a 4 to 5 year player at best. If he was to get injured we would have wasted the draft this year again.

If another player was thrown in or we kept 2 for Brayshaw I would say that was good.

Can guarantee if we give them 2 and 3 the boys they take will be stars for 10 to 12 years.

I hope we can keep 2 in the deal if it is true.

Won't be giving 39 for Frost. We can give either a very low pick or get him in PSD

Josh Kennedy is my favourite player and also my future husband (nobody else knows this yes though), but even I think that 2+3 is too much.

He is a genuine A grade midfielder and will make us a much better team instantly, but he is 26 and I don't think we'll be in a premiership window while he's at his prime.

I'm all for immediate improvement, we desperately need it, but we also need to keep an eye on the future. We can't be throwing it all away for short term mediocrity. We need long term sustained success.

Agree in part. I really don't think Nate Jones will leave. I think he will sign an extension early regardless. Others, you may be right. I would be happier if the Swans gave is back their first round. It just seems like they are taking the [censored].

I also may be happier if it was for a bit younger player. Such as Hannebery or Danger.

I would love to get Kennedy, but in all honesty, if we are not ready to contend for a flag, then 2&3 is way overs. This would reak of being all about Roos. Not the club.

Haha can you imagine the outrage if Sydney for picks 2, 3 AND Heeney??? I'd love Kennedy but not at that price, would make us a joke in the eyes of the rest of the comp and we would've sacrificed another draft trying to turn this club around.

They have already commited to using their first rounder on Isaac Heeney

what about 3+ Grimes + 23 and we keep 2 - i would much prefer that

The swans cant take a player after the AFL ruling. We are stuck with limited options. If we can move another player for a pick we could reduce the cost but would that be worth it?

I know most people are split on Watts but he may benefit from this deal as an outside player. Who could we move for pick 12?

Kennedy been talked about for a while. Yesterday I was led to believe he and Danger were every chance. Hence my BS entry into the Demonland poetry competition.

Kennedy aint happening guys.

I can't see Sydney wanting to do it, they're right in premiership mode with Franklin and Tippet on board, this would set them back a bit

Unless we have another 'buyer' already down the track for another player - We won't get another trade done to get the picks needed... it's too late I reckon

In saying that I find it hard to believe (like Danger) Kennedy would want to come to the Dees so I am pretty sceptical of this news...

Love it though Ryan Dee - if it comes true (21hrs and counting haha) you will be our new god (well u and Kennedy)

Further to my last post, as obvious hypotheticals:

1. Say Nathan Jones sees this trade and goes "Ok, the club is committed to tasting at least some sort of success by the end of my career. I've been through the [censored], I want to be here for the good times". He proceeds to sign a five year contract, tying him to the MFC for the rest of his career. Next season we improve, and after seeing Josh Kennedy come over, a free agent such as a Dangerfield/Walker goes "ok, Melbourne isn't a bad club to play footy for after all" - One of them signs on and we play finals in 2016. Goodwin then takes over a strong list in 2017.

2. The club takes 2&3 to the draft, and we fail to improve in 2015. Nathan Jones knows these boys won't hit their peak until he's in his 30's, he walks at the end of the year, leaving our club without a player who likely just won his fourth consecutive best and fairest. No free agents sign with Melbourne in 2015, and we are still in the same spot 12 months from now, with only one season of Paul Roos left.

Now, these are very broad hypotheticals, but I dare say I'd rather the first one.

Josh Kennedy is potentially a club-altering player, and a talent our club hasn't seen since the turn of the millenium.

Everyone, please get behind the club. The supporters need to stop feeling hard done by, its the supporters who also create a toxic culture. Roos and MFC have been bullish and decided to go all out to get it done.

Go Dees!!

P.s. St Kilda are going to take Petracca, the kid is a jet.

Agree that whoever has pick one takes Petracca.

I will be very happy if they manage to land JK, but am just hoping we can somehow keep 2, maybe by trading another player or getting a pick from Geelong that we can bundle.

I know how hard it is for a bottom club to get a top player.

JT trade falling through hurt the club in a lot of ways (trade - another top pick wasted - sorry Jack I think your a gun but it's likely now he won't reach his potential - all the best JT u deserve it)

If Roos was really going so hard down this route, wouldn't he have tried to fit Malceski into the trade as well? We would've had a lot of leverage considering Sydney only got pick 39 as compensation...

Just thinking out loud.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
