Player has to agree to the trade.

Abolish this in the next CBA and the league will right itself in a few years largely because of it.

Correct. You can't have it both ways.

Sounds like the kid is made of the right stuff... loves a challenge and hard work... wait hang on.

Good luck to Hawthorn, no way will they satisfy GWS in a trade unless they're willing to part with a very good player.

maybe yes. maybe no but that is the point - Hawthorn have to be able to satisfy GWS's demands.

Pretty soon we'll have kids in the NAB AFL draft nominating where they want to go too. They have too much power. WTF is with Howlett saying if Hirdy goes so does he? See what happens when you give these meat heads an inch with AFLPA? The power goes to their precious little heads.

You are thinking about it the wrong way around.

Back when the draft started, kids did choose - Darren effing Jarman said 'no, thanks' to us and chose the powerhouse Hawks the next year.

That was stopped in favour of the far better solution of a draft in which any kid that didn't want to go to a club was kicked out of the sport for two years.

The same attitude change will happen in the next few years if the AFL is to turn truly professional - players will have little to no say in their trade destination and all contracts will be honoured so if we go and get a bloke with two years to go on his deal - we don't have to renegotiate.

The NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and every other regulated sports are run under these rules/guidelines. These are the sports that the AFL honchos look to for emulation.

The AFL has to get there too.

Trade radio boys saying that Collingwood keen to explore Treloar option if Beams deal with Brisbane can’t be resolved.

Barrett reckons GWS had to fight pretty hard to prevent leaving for home once and face a massive battle to keep him at the end of 2015.

Let’s get in on this!

Agreed I would actually give up Pick 2 and even 23 for Treloar and Shiel, that way we would almost give them Petracca.

Whilst giving up two picks in the top 25 we still get a Brayshaw and Stretch for development and would pick up two young guns.

Don't think GWS would do it but what is Petracca worth to them

We have been awful quiet so far.....makes think there is something big brewing........my guess is Dangerfield, Mitchell , Beams or even a Shiel, or Treloar ,Frost deal.

If not , well, I'll be happy with picks 2 and 3....two of Brayshaw, McCartin or Petracca.

I could show you very similar posts last year. We were very quiet for the first four days then Roosy hit us with the big one. The exciting part is he has more chips to play this year at the very top of the draft. It will be done, even if it is only getting 2 of the best 3 kids in the land.

I somehow think though that they will be more strategic.

Can I say though that we are not getting 2 or 3 first round draft picks next year but FOUR.

Jack Trangove has been seriously injured for possibly two years now. He will return this year to his form of his first two years. If so, it will give us a top pick, but someone who has played 50+ games. He will be a star. I also expect Salem to come on in leaps and bounds this year and hopefully Toumpas. I must say as I write this I remember the class jimmy T showed in his first NAB cup game. He still has that if he can overcome his significant injury history.

We are in a great position to improve next year. It is now up to the coaching staff to make it happen. I'd rather be in our position though than any other club in the bottom half of this year's ladder

Carlton should not be expecting much for a player who has fallen out of favour with the coach..

they were dumb in telling the world he was out the door before season's end. Lowers his currency. If you watched him playe between 2010 and 2012 it shows that he is far more talented than any forward we have on our list currently (Jesse Hogan yet to play).

Both Lumumba and Garlett have shown they are easily capable of being in our top ten players.

Pushing out a couple of marginal 22 players, which is no bad thing.

Garlett couldn't get a kick in the VFL this year. I don't think we should be overrating him.

well, we just have to hope hawks can't get the job done and he slides to the psd.

this is ridiculous the yarn that barrett is spinning that adam treloar is involved in trade for beams. just ludicrous.

Pick 3 for Treloar - oh yeah!

After having three massive seasons where he kicked more goals than anyone on our list. One bad year under a coach who doesnt rate him and Betts after being a cracker and an excitement machine previously. I think you are under-rating him

Gee, if they did it, they'd be fools and they'd have to really rated Petracca, kinda unrealistically high too. There's no way he could be better than their two best mids.

We could end up with more than one pick or a higher pick for Clark, that one will be interesting. The club is not rolling over now as Geelong have found and Collingwood are not going to milk too high a pick as they did for Dawes with H.

It's going to be a very different list by the end of the draft period. I still think there may be some movement from GWS.

Yes, fascinating times ahead 'Macca'.

We are still into Shiel. Quite possibly the multi deal including Frost.

Only 2 days gone guys and 7 to go!

Source? hope its true Dylan Shiel would be a massive get for us. Probably even bigger then Danger.

The guy is an absolute machine

Just for a bit of comedy guys

So with the Ryder trade seemingly going nowhere, its pretty obvious we'll have to get a 3rd party involved. What do you guys think of this?

Essendon lose: Ryder + Pick 19 (does it move back to Pick 20 after compo?), Essendon gain Patton + Pick 4 + Pick 37ish
Port lose: O'Shea + Pick 17 + Pick 37ish, Port gain: Ryder
GWS lose: Patton + Pick 4, GWS gain: Pick 17 + Pick 19 (20?) + O'Shea

I'm not sure if its even or not, but it sounds (in my head) like it might work.

EFA

GWS starts over with Pick 2 & 3 and lose two proven top end talents, and Danger for Cameron I'm not sure would totally suit the Crows. Cameron faded this season, injuries not withstanding. Danger is worth more to them.

We'd be laughing though.

Sounds nice in theory

But why would the Crows want Cameron when they want Danger and have Tex -

and why would GWS give up 2 guns for 2 unknowns in the draft when they want senior bodies?

Plus the players have to agree to it - so good luck convincing them

The NBA style trade before FA doesn't work in the AFL yet - the players have too much say

I like it don't get me wrong - theory and reality with trades are 2 very separate things

because both players want out of the respective clubs. to be closer to home.... & finances

so, both clubs get something they need for their players...

In GWS case, they can spread the age group further on they're list, but also they have valuable picks to on-trade for other mature players, if they so wish.

You were right about the comedy bit.

Essendon lose Ryder and pick 19, gain Patton and pick 4? Gold.

They really are a joke.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
