I caught the back-end of the report so I didn't hear who made the statement, but what I did hear was, "...said it will be unlikely that Melbourne will be granted a priority pick." It was a serious report, not some [censored] journalist making the statement, so I can only assume it was an AFL official.

I think the club is obliged to ask for one, but considering the number of top 10 picks we have, the compensation we're going to get for Frawley, not to mention the cap space we have, I don't think the AFL will give us one.

I have changed my mind on PP's, I agree.

We should start fighting. Below is what I would start fighting for.

An equal draw so everyone shares equally friday nights and the better days and times and the worst days and times.

An end to club's Academies. This year and next the Swans will get 2 boys rated top 5 for a pick 20 in each year.

A direction from the AFL that quality FA's must come to us and other lowly clubs if we offer similar money to the top clubs.

An end to Salary cap benefits of some clubs like the Swans COLA and Carlton's Judd Visy deal.

An end to the avoidance by some clubs of playing at Skilled Stadium.

An end to AFL arrangements that deny clubs like Melbourne, access to players like the American, recently allowed to go only to Collingwood, because we didn't have the money to go to the USA to interview him.

A reduction in the salaries of the executives of the AFL which can lead to more money for the clubs. There will be no problem in replacing them if they decide to leave.

An end to the list benefits of club's like GC and GWS of more players on their list.

An end to working parties of the AFL dominated by Eddie and his selected mates.

Yes lets start fighting for our fair chance to improve on a level playing field and we can forget the PP.

Given Evans is now telling the media we won't get one, perhaps we should adopt the Barrett method and fight. I would start mentioning the above and more in press conferences to get it all out there. We now have several of the media heavyweights behind us.

If we are to not get a PP so be it, but we need to fight for an even playing field. The rigged competition together with our incompetence in drafting has combined to put us in this position.

It was AFL Operations Manager Mark Evans saying a PP was unlikely because the rule was kept really to deal with some sort of player tragedy scenario? Huh, they make it up as the go. The wording of the rule makes no such reference. Then what is a player tragedy? A death such as Troy Broadbridge or if a player wrecks his knee in a match? Does Mitch C qualify? If the tragedy happens after the draft how do you give a club access to a priority pick? Evans is making it up as he goes.

As the Executive advises the so called independent AFL Commission of Drones you can pencil in a big No.

Unless I am mistaken, taking Jurrah cost us Rockliff who was training with us.

We lost Jurrah Clark and Bartram for nothing. 3 of our best 22.

If you remove a couple of those close losses and add 5 goals to some of our losses to better teams, would we even be having this argument (would it not just be a dead certainty)? A spade is a spade. We have improved on our shizen 2013, but are no better than we were in 2012 and still are a long way off the form of our 2011 side.

As you say, JKH is a first year player who has shown undeniable promise, but he is a long way off cementing himself as a regular AFL player, he has shown signs, but until he cements himself it’s fair to doubt that he will make it.

I have faith in Roos to develop those names, unfortunately I have just as much faith that John Longmire can develop the likes of Membrey, Hannebery, Mitchell, Cunningham, Z.Jones, Bird, Rohan, Reid, Parker, B.Jack, Lloyd and the addition of two top 10 rated academy players over the next 2 years.

Not only does one of the top teams have significantly better senior players, it has significantly better ‘development’ players as well. Add to that GWS and GC. When those teams smash us now with depeleted sides, younger lists and more talent it is hard to see us challenging for a flag in the next 10-15 years, let alone winning one.

Thanks 'rpfc', saved me having to post this, couldn't have said it better.

We may have had a lot of draft picks but we are not alone. The issue for us is that a good deal of them haven't worked out and the pool of talent is diminished because of the xpansion clubs.

We have not been able to replace those picks with talent. So we are getting killed twice. Once because the pool was bare to begin with, twice because we can't replenish.
