Good effort though at the end of the day, hopefully we are past our horrible month and we can be competitive for the rest of the season.

So we can't actually look at the play the got us to that point then? Sorry Dad, didn't realise you dictated what get's said on this board.

Did you miss the point ?

Apparently. We had it won.

Theres nothing in losing.

How can you defend that brain fart?!? Kick it within 20 m of the line and force a throw in, or chip it sideways or backwards FFS, we had the lead, he put it to 3 port players vs 1 demon player in the corridor FFS, crazy!

Its not about one kick - we lost due to many errors

The kick wasn't great that's not my argument - u can also find multiple errors in the last which lost us the game

If u want to dwell on one incident and blame that on the loss then find another bozo to argue with - thats my point

All teams will say umps cost them or were against them, we see things from our teams perspective.

We lost the game, not the umps, not port.

Jones, stupid, stupid, stupid.

Dawes, stupid kick.

Grimes, dear god your kicking is woeful.

Spot on!

Tyson was brilliant. What a complete game. 32 touches, 2 goals and 7 tackles.

21 years old with 29 games experience, very nice to think how good he will be in about 5 years!

If you were new to watching us you'd think Jetta has been running the show for years. What a stellar season he's having.

Tyson and Dunn also excellent. Jones found some touch but that blunder was as bad as Dawes' (who needs another tall next to him, who'd have been there for that ball) and Grimes... How predictable, I called out on the full before he even went to kick it.

I think Kent is a good choice as the sub, just would've removed Tapscott rather than Pigdog.

We miss Cross.

And we miss too many shots at goal.

I feel flat after a terrific effort.

Of course the umps didn't cost us the game, but that doesn't make the current umpiring standard acceptable. I think most level headed footy fans have had enough.

Pretty much sums it up. Wonderful effort, excellent improvement... but still a loss.

That's just not true. The players will learn from a tough, tight loss far more than you think. The reality is that we have been getting flogged in the last few years and it does take time to learn how to win the close ones. It's too easy to regard the loss as a waste of a game.

Posted

I'd miss it if you made one every now and then.

so you're all fine with that...

I'm incredibly calm after that loss, because I never thought we could win.

We lack polish and composure, and not many games are won on hard defensive work against top 4 teams.

It was a good effort, but we will continue to be a bottom 4 team until we find smarter, better users of the footy.

I'd love to know the number of games where the turning point has been a bs free kick against us, when we have had momentum. The Gold Coast game, (Garry ablett free) bulldogs (crameri) even terlich free against Richmond nearly cost us, the. Today, time and time again. I'm sure there's more. God it hurts when you know we should have won and others interfered

Let's go back here shall we... there is nothing in losing? So we cannot take anything positive from it? We have to ignore Tyson's performance, Jetta being terrific down back etc?

Nothing honorable about this loss.
But this (x2) and the Doggies games (on top of the Freo and Geelong debacles) hopefully opens the players' eyes up to the fact that the opposition doesn't take a break so we can't either. Roosy last week explained the loss against Geelong in the best way I have seen a coach explain our losses. The fact that some blokes (he didn't name names) decide to take a breather is the reason why we drop off and then spend the next 2 to 3 quarters grinding our way back in. In the meantime, the opposition sees an opening and puts their boot on our trachea and begins applying pressure. It's pushing up all the time or you see teams get a five goal jump on us.
Some blokes are also aware that they are playing for their careers at the MFC. I hope (in fact I know) that Roosy isn't dazzled by these cameos as we have seen too much of them. PJ will have to market the club some way next year but put harshly I don't want to hear a word about how we are 'on the up'. I saw that movie in 2010 and we all know how that went.

Whilst I'm probably a [censored] eyed optimist, I leave this game believing we can push for the eight next year. Flock the lot lot of you if you dare suggest otherwise. Go you 'sort of' good things.

But that's the thing, it's not just our games, the grey area surrounding certain rules, and the incompetent umpires impact the result of far too many games.

A loss is a loss is a loss.

When the wash up is completed we were just not good enough.

We have blamed the umpires every week.

They are not the reason we are third last.

No, but they are the reason we don't have more than 16 points!

Posted

Well I'm looking forward to some top draft picks ( who'll add grunt to our midfield ... or goal kicking potential .... or 200 gamers) and, of course, a big preseason and ....... FMD call me a groundhog. (whatever that is)

Posted

Donation made to umpires by D.Cassisi??

lol... The AFL fix matches to maximise revenue... It benefits them to have strong interstate teams...

We see it every round, but most ether choose to ignore it or are just plain ignorant to it... I love the demons, but i can't pay to watch this crap anymore... Our game has been ambushed by money...

Posted

So... What is the future for Blease and Tappscott?

That 3rd qtr against a genuine side was encouraging.... We all know there are facets of the game the Dees need to improve, I hope they keep working hard.... I am sad we lost and frustraded in the errors in the last but there were some good signs as well..

I love Pigdogs work the last few weeks u could argue his miss cost us the game not just, Jones, Dawes and Grimes errors.... There is something to build with though

Tappy played ok today i thought and Blease conrtributed

Dunn - T Mac and Jetter were solid down back for most of the day

We clean our disposals and decisoin making which has dogged us all year and we might look ok

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
