Goal Posts - rule change

Recommended Posts

I think you have left out a very important possibility, DC. What if the defensive team could shake the post, so that a shot that might scrape through hits the post instead? Or perhaps if you take too long for a set shot, the posts start narrowing automatically? Or if you are Buddy Franklin the posts bend automatically to take into account his 'natural arc'? Or rather than nine points for outside 50, what about 12 points if the kick is within 1 metre of the centre of the posts? Or ... I think I need my morning coffee ...:blink:

all good points r&b, but i think the first one is explicitly banned by a rule

liked your last point - like a target board, more points the closer to the centre. make the goal umps earn their money

The rules change so much these days, they will probably change that one too ... It could be interested to see a 'push of war' between defenders trying to narrow the opening with the other team pushing to widen it ...

and points according to degree of difficulty and centrality - could add interest at least to the blow out games

If the score difference exceeds say 50 points, then we could have the goal posts start migrating towards the wing ... if it gets to 100 points, the team behind can then go across the ground to score ... or maybe the team ahead has to kick it through both goals to score ...

Well, I have had the morning coffee, but it doesn't seem to have helped ...

And I thought I could write bullshite! I am a mere minnow in a pond of masters. (Excuse the jumbled metaphor but I am in awe)

Well, I was going to add that perhaps it should be a goal if you bounce the ball on the top of the post, but I thought that would be going too far ... :)

I would like to see an additional scoring option included in the rules where the player can call out "poster!!" as he kicks the ball on the run (or as he prepares to take a set kick)... if it hits the post he gets 9 points for nominating a shot with a high degree of difficulty. If he doesn't make the call and it hits the post, then it is considered accidental and just the single point is awarded. And to make it more interesting (and to employ a "no shenanigans" rule), if said player does call "poster" and it passes through the goals without hitting the post, his score is devalued to just 3 points.

I think it's a goer... anyone else agree?

What if he calls "poster" and hits the point post? Does he call "point poster" then?

Look, it's pretty simple what the game is missing: poster extra sudden death time!

If a player kicks the ball and hits the post then bells, whistles, sirens and fireworks go off, and for the next three minutes 5 balls are in play, while new goal posts rise out of the ground on each wing to prevent goal square congestion.

If the post is hit again in this time then 2 extra balls are added and the interchange benches run out to join in the fun.

If the post is hit for a third time during 'poster extra sudden death time' then game will stop and the player that was responsible will be booed and pelted with oranges, and scores will be reset to zero.

You're just trying to make an already complicated system unnecessarily complicated, aren't you.

Obviosuly for it to count as a double pointer he'd have to make the "point poster" call before he kicked it, not after the kick.

They should put an empty VB stubby on the top of each post and players get 9 pts for hitting it flush on.

I am a little more tempted by the idea of 9 points for giving the goal umpire a falcon ... :):)

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
