its not a great win but happy to see we came back from the confidence sapping period from the opening bounce until just before half time.We looked like regressing and I had that feeling again.

Cant believe Watts missed that goal , he seemed to kick it with a different action a couple of times today. and ill say it again Dom Tyson needs to kick on his right foot when required.

i enjoyed Jamar and Maxies efforts and loved Viney giving it to minson , he looked like he was getting the better of Minson in the verbal.

Seriously still lacking in gun midfielders and midfield depth

After Jones, Viney, Vince and Jones there is a massive drop off

Gonna be a big draft-trade period

Am seriously looking forward to f'k'ng off our list cloggers for some actual decent talent.

I have just watched the Bail deliberate rushed behind clip - it is something that one sees several times every game of every round: why pick that one??

How many have been paid this year? Last year? Ever?

It seems so unjust, but typifies the pathetic inconsistent state of umpiring at AFL.

Not saying it cost us the game, but it certainly put more indecision into our deep defenders especially in the dying minutes, who may otherwise have rushed it through.

Roos summed it up in his presser: "I don't know the rules" - This coming from a legend of the game...

So you have a 3 week memory capacity then?

Yes yes I do... 1 game in how long?

Posted

Another year of my life, another football season. I am just sick of losing!!! We have a group of good cameos each week with the exception of Nathan Jones.

Roos inherited some very ordinary AFL players and it is going to be one hell of a job to turn the list over.

We were smashed at the contests today and the lowly bulldogs have far more talent than us.

We must be the only club in modern history who seem incapable of recruiting players who can win games off their own boots, stars who can lift the team, players who develop into competition superstars......the MFC fails on every count!

This is a list of very average ordinary AFL players. Apart from a senior coach with credentials, I have no faith unless we recruit some superstars into this outfit. SICK OF LOSING!

Roos gold over on the presser on the umpires. " it would be a little like me trying to work on the Lamborghini" in understanding the rules." I don't know the rules"

What did Frawley do that was so terrible?

Failed to clear the goal square, turned the ball over allowing Bonpemtelli to score.

Earlier in the day the maggot umpire paid a deliberate rushed against Bail, this clearly rattled the backline, so they didn't rush a behind for the rest of the day, this "interpretation" cost us 3 goals during the day, the first against Bail to give Stringer a goal, the second was a turn over goal to Hunter (??) and then Frawley's effort.

Umpiring was strange to say the least with several unusual decisions, but the rushed one was clearly in the defences heads, and they lacked composure in close for the rest of the day.

Understand your point, but I just can't help thinking that he's not a competitor. Compare him to Goddard (as folk have)... Goddard wins the one on ones. I can't think of a worse one on one player than Watts in our team, and I think that's a very high price to pay for skill.

I dont care if he wins the one-on-ones, just keep your feet and try to neutralise the contest.

Watts struggles to keep his feet and he made a couple of mistakes today

And I think unusually made mistakes by foot - missed passes and a goal when he is normally a reliable kick.

I thought he had a crack today, but wonder if he is carrying an ankle injury, tape or a needle might explain the kicking problems.

Dumb footballers lose matches, we have to many week in week out. Frawley is number 1 on that list just error after error

And Terlich and Grime and Garland

Might have been the Malcolm Blight bad ball theory. Early in the game Vince, Watts & Murphy all shanked the ball and these are 3 of the best kicks in the game.

Melbourne dont run at the ball enough too many holding back waiting for the spill we were absolutley murdered at the ball all day we cannot get a clearance because we dont want it enough

Robbery is what good teams do often. They just find a way to win... We just cannot stay composed in the heat of battle to pinch a win.

I could have picked any number of ridiculous posts to make my point that there is serious amount of rubbish in this thread and for that matter dl . So many stupid, illogical definitive statements that it makes my head spin. Cannot stay composed and pinch a win? Except for a game 2 weeks back where we did precisely that. And for gods sake what has toumpas got to do with anything. Those who seemingly acannot accept the fact that the toump is a demon rather than wines etc what point are you trying to make? Or have I missed something and you can go back in time? Is the critism for the toump, the recruiters or the club? What relevance does it have in a post math thread? I'm with nasher on this - such rubbish makes DL hard work

Hey Binman what comes after the mathematics

He is very ordinary, on his left, when he has to pinpoint a pass, but on the run, having a shot for goal he's quite good.

But you're right, he would have sent us forward more often if he had a right foot and if didn't try to break through and passed it off a bit more we could have won the game.

He'll learn, just like Jones did that it's not always the best option to just try and barge through.

Yeah I think some are forgetting he's still only 20 years old.

You missed fumbled the ball every time he topuched it.Hes not worth 800 grand more like nothing. Just go away Frawley you embarras yourself .Based on today no body will want him and we will be stuck with him I have never seen a player go so rotten in a career

Watts struggles to keep his feet and he made a couple of mistakes today - the biggest I believe being when he ran directly to the bench without looking at the ball, after Dunn played on from a kick in, hoping to bomb it to Watts on the flank. That was a total loss of concentration on his behalf and cost us a goal.

However he was far from our worst today and was valuable in some link up play. He has come a fair way from the last couple of years, no matter how many people still love to bash him.

He definitely wasn't our worst and had some really good pieces of play its just he undoes his good work with the stuff he dishes up. Really frustrating because its clear the talents there and it seems like hes not getting the best out of himself (although has taken massive steps forward the last two months).

Some of you are so pessimistic it makes me laugh.

Etihad is no way suits our game plan, and the Bulldogs game plan is built on it (which I think is a terrible idea long term because it's not a ground for finals). A lot of out long term players look tired and only have 1-3 preseasons under their belts.

Even is we finish 18th this season we've taken huge steps in terms of competitiveness, structures and standards. Look how hard it is to get a game in the seniors for some players. Last year it was a raffle.

Our forty club is on the rise guys. You've got to take a step backwards to go 2 forward. We butchered the ball today at a ground that we've been flogged at for years and only lost by 6 points. We must be doing somethings right.

You mate are deluded seriously ?

Posted

It seems that if you stop Jones you cut off our midfield clearances and they did that in the first half, he needs the others to step up a bit.

We have to get at least two more quality mids and if we have to draft them in, then so be it, you don't get too many clubs giving up quality for draft picks.

Again we have done it how many times? We have had games there for the taking and once.... Yes just once we fell over the line. So I guess you are right.

As for Toumpas I agree with what you have said.

It does seem a bit pathetic that some on here are allowed the privilege to voice an opinion on everything... No matter how childish, pointless, rude and off topic it is but when its a observation... An opinion of a fellow forum member which is on topic, tards on here go on a bit of a chest beating rant!!

He's surrounded by poor quality teammates and he expects too much of them; he expects them to give him an option when he gets the ball. Unfortunately a number of them don't know where to go or how give him protection so he can advance the ball.

I was thrilled with the improvement however it just feels like we are now going backwards.

So disappointed with losing and in particular, losing this game. A good win would have really shown improvement and given a good boost of confidence for next week.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
