I reckon you are right, going to be right up the top for a few years, have money, Bluey is a huge fan of chip

To Fremantle to replace McPharlin.

Not sure they can afford him. They have just paid big money to retain Fyffe and now Mundy.

If Pav and McPharlin go around again there aint that much money left in their cap.

Geelong or GC look more likely to me.

I've quietly wondered about whether Frawley's absence from the backline has been a ploy from Roos to keep his value high.

It's in our best interests for Frawley to get the largest contract possible if he is to leave, for reasons of ensuring maximum compensation.

To play him as a defender only gives his potential suitors a chance to critique his game and justify why he isn't worth the money.

Like the "golden years", we often remember things with in inaccurately favourable tinge.

Most people recall Frawley being an elite defender as his reputation suggests, and forget his deficiencies.

Roos playing Frawley as a forward, in a completely foreign position, gives him a ready made excuse for any flat spots in form.

And if anything, his good games as a forward have increased his value.

It preserves the golden memory of his elite standing.

Frawley returning to the backline had me wondering if a decision has been made and an offer agreed, meaning Frawley's form is now irrelevant since compo is based on contract alone.

Just putting it out there.

NB. We as supporters pumping his up as absolutely elite, in a small way, can also have an influence on securing the best outcome for our club...

I didn't realise Mundy has resigned, only just read the article. Fair call.

Pav and a few players are on the books at a sponsor of there's so might off set some salary cap expense.

Whatever is transpiring my money is on Roos not being a bunny .

contract and age: his age will contribut to us getting max compo.

Yes, but his age can't be influenced by any other variables.

Depriving Frawley of the opportunity to prove he's not really as good a defender as his reputation says, can influence the contract he gets, and therefore the compo we receive.

How exactly does that work ? apart from being a major breach of the salary cap -

Pav is already on the veterans list so there is no relief there

go or stay - I have no idea but his initial reason for holding off until into the season is no longer relevant so I am leaning to him going.

Serious question - do you think that coaches ( Roos ?) would manipulate a perspective FA like Frawley purely to get a better draft pick ?

I think what Roos did with Frawley has been completely borne out of necessity - we had no forwards we need one so it was Frawley - we lost Tmac last week so we put Frawley back.

I don't think he would do that but I've thought all along that there was a reason for playing Frawley forward and letting the defence develop without him. I don't think it was purely the need of another tall forward but have thought Roos was convinced Frawley was going or near enough to going to build a defence without him.

out of sheer curiosity I would to take Roosy aside next year after the dust settles and ask the question. I think it was just expediency but I do see the logic in this opinion.

Not sure how it works but he is definately an employee of a major sponsor. I assumed secondary employment would be ok but not with a major sponsor.

He's been payed by them for years.

In light of the reversal of Judd's visy deal I am sure the major part of his money comes from Freo. ( or conversely is well and truly hidden from all and sundry)

I'm sure the major part comes from Freo too. The main reason why I brought it up some because I was unsure of the legalities of it, considering it's not just Pav but a number of players.

Without knowing I just would think that Geelong and Hawthorn ( with Buddy money freed up) have more money to splash than Freo

Would have to be the hottest property this coming off-season. I wish him well. I wish our club even better.

Not sure they really need him with Thompson and May playing so well down there. They would want to keep some cap room to sign up all their younger players over the next 2-4 years.

They have got some seriously scary talent in that club.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
