I like the article, but should have been published in the lead up to the Queen's Birthday game.

I think, that Paul Roos will coach for 5 years minimum.. Once he gets a sniff of success he will not want to leave.. He will want to finish Mission Impossible! Its looking like we may win 7 games this year, with abit of luck more..

Thoughts? I think he will coach for 5 years minimum!

Yes....I saw how pumped he was after knocking off Ess when he thumped the desk hard!!! It just reinforces my thoughts moreso that he will be around longer in the coaching role...... even though he has stated 3 years will see him out...

The way I see it is it keeps the media off his back full well knowing he has stated 3 years only. Less pressure on him & more time to spend on completely overhauling MFC and turning us into a powerhouse.

And then when the time comes for a contract renewal it will be a 2nd great coup in 3 years for MFC and more positivity to a club due to really shine at that point.

He is a master of coaching and smoke & mirrors....make no mistake about that.

Its more of a dream for us Demon fanatics but tell me why it cant happen......What he states & what he does do are completely different things...we have seen this before have we not?

Said he wasnt interested in the job at MFC....and then......HE TOOK IT!

We will find out down the track anyhow wont we.

I live in hope but can't see it happening. He's said 3 years max, we'll hire a successor after this season, so there's no turning back after that.

I think the length of time is very dependent on their activity with getting/nominating a successor in during the off season. I see him doing the 3 years with a possibility of up to 5 but if they get a successor in place and tell him "you will be senior coach in 201_" and then go back on it I can't see that being great for coaching harmony. Also depends on whether they put a date on it, they could say "we're getting you as our coach in waiting but it will be up to Paul Roos when that happens".

I would love him to thrust that premiership cup in the air in Dees colours!

Great supporter confidence booster. I particularly liked this quote - “I’m really enjoying it and I probably have more of an attachment to the club than I felt I would have, which is good.”

I think he'll stay about 5 years and then move back into an Academy type role. Would love him for the next ten years though!

Staying on and getting us into a granny within 5 years would be just about the best footy story of all time.

................ and winning that granny would be the best! (for all of us, at least).

ps. Port may have a reasonable case to mount over the next year or two

If Roosy stays and wins a flag for the Dees he will be Deemed to be the best coach in the AFL, ever.

As it is he has performed a minor miracle in getting us competitive and playing to some sort of a plan, as well as resurrecting the careers of several players previously thought of as duds.

He's actually made it a pleasure to go to the football again and I thank him sincerely for that.

Let's just wait to see who his successor is.

That will determine how long he will be coach.

I'm sure he will be coach as long as it takes to get his understudy up to speed.

I can't see him walking away without leaving the club in good hands.

3 years max, maybe a 4th but only if the right successor is a fit.

I see Dew reckons he is now ready to have a crack at the main job (and nearly signed up for MFC). link

!00% agree RF.

For Roos to take us from basket case to premiership(s) (in addition to his Sydney achievements) would make him the greatest coach of all time. (hopefully an incentive for him too)

I love his coaching (always loathed Neelds). Sceptical of succession plan because usually when someone's made coach, THEY want and need to be coach, not second guessing what their great predesessor would do (did you see Bomber T's response when it was suggested he be the successor?). I think we're miles better off with Roos himself directly making those correct decisions and influencing players the way he does so well, for hopefully many years.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
