I presume Jack Viney signed on for more than two but I'm not sure of that.

Nev Jetta will likely earn himself re promotion to the main list as well as a two year deal if his current form continues. Is Howe locked up for longer? Another year for Bail if he doesn't have one already.

Besides that the main 3 are the ones you mentioned.

Richmond losing Matty White shows you have to pay careful attention to the bottom of your list but as they aren't free agents I think we will sort it out with everyone besides Frawley and Dunn who we have to work on. The price on the open market on Dunn will be interesting, other teams will certainly be watching. He's playing better than Rivers when Geelong poached him.

Geeze, we got some bloody signing to do in the next few years!

Lucky we are playing better.

Looking at the guys on the list for this year, it looks like we'll be fairly active in the draft. You'd think at the moment that Blease, Strauss, Tapscott, and Barry are all on thin ice. Clisby seems to be doing better but can't crack a game in the seniors and Byrnes is probably retiring. Even if we keep the others, that's still five or six gone.

Fascinating to see who goes here. Tapscott, Byrnes and Nicholson will be first out the door. Strauss, Blease and Barry will be next in line. I'd say we'll delist 6. I think Frawley will stay, so it'll be interesting to see whether they keep Spencer and they'll upgrade Georgiou and Jetta.

I reckon I can see 4 that will be on the chopping block for 2015, but a long way to go there.

I think we'll re-sign everyone for next year.

Doubt Spencer is going anywhere given Jamar is almost a month by month proposition and besides Gawn that's all we have. In fact you could almost add another mature rookie depending on confidence in Fitzy.

Also think Georgiou is perfect to keep on the rookie list until he shows he can be more than just depth. No rush in promoting him. And the other thing is to not forget Clark is gone. So Jetta's promotion takes his spot.

If no one leaves and there's not much outstanding in the trade or free agent market it would be nice from a stability to point to just delist the 5 or 6 and then bring in a 4 or so new draftees and maybe 1 mature ager, trade or free agent. That's how Geelong have worked it for so long. Sydney like to mix and match and bring in some alternative talents but for the stage we are at I think the draft represents our best crack. We'll have guys like Michie and Riley who we might not have tested out much this year to have a shot next year.

Seems increasingly clear to me Roos will be doing a top to bottom evaluation of our list and each player at the end of the season (during finals most likely) to determine

A. Which players need to be kept and for how long

B. How much $ each player deserves based on performance

C. Who they're planning to recruit and making sure they have enough money left in the kitty to land a big fish or two

Also likely they needed to wait to see the equalization measures (salary cap increase, having to pay 100%), because they all have a large bearing on player payments if they have big recruitment plans in motion.

Probably just making it easier on themselves by going through the whole process at the same time, rather than shortsightedly doing it throughout the season and not leaving themselves enough money to recruit whoever they're (likely already) targeting.

This seems as good a place as any to ask this question.

With the changes announced by the AFL today, in particular the banking of the last 2 season's of "underpaying" the TPP, where does that leave us? Does anyone know whether we were 92.5%, 95%, 100% of the TPP over the 2013 & 2014 seasons? I recall a couple of years back under the Harrington era of list management we front ended a lot of contracts so we could chase players (the reason why Frawley is UFA & not RFA). There's also the issue of the Clark payout.

My thinking is that this may give us a little more squeeze room with the likes of Frawley & Dunn who are both UFA. Perhaps the club has been holding off on resigning until the AFL's position on the matter became clearer.

Yeah, you're right on Spencer. I had Fitzy in my 2015 delist list, but still a long way to go, so we'll see. Especially with his physical attributes.

Probably right call on Georgiou too and good point, RE: Jetta.

I think 6 should be minimum. There's still a lot of dead weight on the list and we want lots of competition for spots next year.

I'd hope Michie and Riley can crack the season side a bit as some of the younger guys currently in the 1's tire.

Dunny is going to be in for the mother of all pay rises

hes been borderline AA this year

Borderline AA? He's been good but not that good. Doubt anyone other than Melbourne people think so. Dom Tyson, yes. Nate Jones, maybe. Good dream, though.

I've got it at 5 plus Clark which is 6. Barry is the one up in the air but he's got pace, endurance and is following the coaches instructions at Casey. Even if he's not getting a kick I think he finds another year. McKenzie, Fitzy and Evans are 3 who are contracted but could be traded out but I doubt there's much interest and all 3 have shown something at AFL level so you never know if a second preseason under Roos could turn them around. In fact they could all play big roles in the rest of this year.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
