Not sure how many people are watching tonight, but if you thought Richmond were embarrassing, tonight the Eagles are giving them a run for their money. Awful, awful game plan which hasn't been adjusted by their coach despite being obviously flawed from the first quarter, terrible kicking skills from the entire team, and an endless series of bombed kicks into their forward 50 that North continually intercept with ease.

Our defensive game plan will crush this team in form like this. Embarrassing to watch.

Definitely makes you think about wasted opportunities, but we had to endure a few knocks before settling into the new game plan. Wasn't going to happen overnight. But if we keep improving as we are, and the majority of teams in the league continue to play thoroughly average footy next year, we'll have no issues pushing for finals. There are far less high intensity, highly skilled teams in the league than everyone rated at the start of the year.

I said at the start of the season they are flat track bullies and many (Wyl you were one) sneered at me they have no midfield depth and don't like the hard stuff, champions of the game like Glass & Cox are done and I love it hate them more than any sporting club in the world

It was bad timing. We were effectively sending out the Scorpions in the first three weeks as well as adjusting to the gameplan. Unfortunately that coincided with three of the easiest games in our fixture.

I really want to beat them and if we continue to play hard nose footy like we have and maintain improvement across the list we should beat sides like that most of the time

I'm with you mate on this one. Living in Perth it was unbearable when there was only the Weagles. They just dominated the sporting pages. I even barrack for Collingwood when the play West Coast. That's the ONLY TIME mind you!

I wonder how much that is a combination of the compromised drafts of the past fourish years and the lack of quality senior coaches at AFL level. We're very lucky to have Roos, but how good are coaches like Richardson, McCartney, Simpson, Brad Scott, Cameron etc. There are a lot of ordinary coaches kicking about, I reckon. You've also got Malthouse, who IMO, was finished two or three years ago. What happens to Hawthorn if Clarkson has to give it away? Chris Scott has had a team that had practically coached itself since he took over. What will he be like when it comes to rebuilding a list? Then you've got FIGJAM over at Collingwood, who has seen failure follow him around since he left Brisbane. I'm not convinced he's got what it takes or the list to win a flag any time soon.

The top four coaches (outside of Clarkson) still coaching league footy today, IMO are Lyon (but how long before he moves on and leaves another list decimated?); Bomber (but how much of their inconsistency is down to the spectre of ASADA and how much is down to Bombers' inability to extract consistency from his team?); Longmire (but even his team have been inconsistent during the home and away season, in typical Sydney fashion) and our man Roos. The rest of the coaches helm iffy and/or inconsistent teams.

I just hope Roos signs on for more after his third year.

EDIT. Oh and there's a bloke called Hinkley too. He'd be up there as well.

There was an interesting analysis on the Sunday Footy Show where they gushed over Roos' spectacular ability to adjust his gameplan to suit the needs of the opponent. We did what very few other teams could against Port; we restricted their run. It's all about the gameplan and Roos. Very few coaching groups have the level of knowledge that PR's team do, and the way it's being implemented is fairly spectacular. I'm not sure a lot of other teams have the same resources or the depth of knowledge to tinker with their gameplan every week to suit the needs of their opponent.

I never thought we'd be in a situation after only ten games where any game for the second half of the year was winnable, even with only 3 wins to our name. But make no mistake, we can pinch any game and knock over any opponent from here on, and the players believe it too.

I am very confident Brett Kirk would also have a similar level of knowledge of the game plan as roos and if roos stuck around as director of coaching or something that would be fantastic

That may have been true pre Malthouse but certainly not the case now and part of the reason why Sumich was not given the job, they wanted a fresh change. Judge a West Aussie boy was highly disliked by the player group and player power won out and Nesbitt did not listen to Judgey warning of off field problems with experimentation so to speak with their young playing group.

Judge was treated very badly in the end by Meth Coast, speak to him about it now and he has a lot of animosity towards the club. You are right to say they are only interested in success as was well and truly proven by putting a flag ahead of player welfare.

I've seen way more injury ravaged MFC sides than the outfits they put out in rounds 1-3.

In terms of volume, you're right. We had almost all of our best tall players out though. You're not going to win games with entire sections of your team out.
