A dream for him - $1m a season in his fourth season ? That's Tom Scully foolishness.

He will come with a large price tag - but $1M per season. hmmmm

Almost as big a dream as Hogan's $600k+ contract extension with 0 games played?

Camerons form has been iffy this year but I quite forgot that he kicked 60 plus goals last year. A big investment but with his talent it may turn out to be a cheapie

Scott pendelbury?

Bit of a long shot but money talks

You will put any player in the league down as some sort of possibility won't you?

In a suggestion thread about players we could potentially target, absolutely, and I don't see the issue with that, does not say it has to realistic in the thread title, if you don't like the suggestion simply pass over it.

Potentially is the key word. There is no way we would 'potentially' target the Collingwood captain with the reason that money talks. Ridiculous in the extreme. I might decide to pass over it in future but you could do yourself a favour and get some common sense.

But he followed melbourne as a kid

So you don't believe any player has, or will anytime soon change clubs because of money.

Gary Ablett

Brendan Goddard

Tom Scully

Rhyce Palmer

Callan ward

Dale Thomas

Mitch Clark

Lance Franklin

Pendels grew up a Dees supporter, and the nature of free agency is going to be that you either move for money or you move for success.

maybe Pendels is a long shot, but so was Roosy.

Of course they will move for money, but every player you have listed has far different circumstances to Pendlebury. FAR different. Just because some move for money doesn't mean everyone will or that the circumstances are similar.

Same goes for this stupid belief that, because landed Roos, then we can land anybody. It's rubbish. He didn't have a coaching job and we threw BUCKET LOADS of cash at him. Again, a vastly different circumstance to Pendles. Stop using these base excuses to hide behind when we all know mentioning Pendlebury is ridiculous and there is no chance he will ever play for us.

Oh, and the same goes for the "he grew up a Dees supporter" crap. That's what it is Mike - crap. How old are you to actually believe that's a factor? 10? Like I said before, do yourself a favour and get some common sense.

Look that's your opinion, I have a different view, I think when Scott's current contract is up, he is very gettable,

Because I think we should target the best players in the AFL when they become available while we have massive salary cap space, I am out of my mind, wanting to have a half decent side for once, shame on me.

But it isn't up. So why bother mentioning it?

By the same measure, we should target Gary Ablett and Buddy Franklin. They're both good players, so we need to be smart, sane, realistic, ruthless!!

as i'm sure you are aware free agency targets are established and the lines of conversation are opened earlier and earlier, the end of this year and start of next year would be a good time to start considering Scott, his contract is up in 2016, so at the end of 2015, if Collingwood look like losing him the next year because say the MFC have a deal they can't match on table they will have to consider a trade.

I would have no issue with the club going to Scott and saying that at the end of next year there is a very good contract on offer for you to join the club. it's no different to Hawthorn targeting Cotchin or Dangerfield

He will be 28 by then... Would you still want to offer a massive pay packet for a 28 year old?

Posted

So ....... what you are saying is that we should be focussing our efforts on attracting Pendlebury .... in 2 years time. By the time Pendlebury would play his first game he'd be 28 years old.

So you want to focus our recruiting efforts on recruiting a 28 year old opposition club captain who will then be in the twilight of his career?

You're making too much sense here AoB, he won't understand. He is captain of Collingwood... and he is going to walk out on them, for us, in a few years time for possibly a bit more cash. It all makes such brilliant sense....

Posted

You asked why I mentioned it, I answered, didn't say I would do it, just that I believe he is gettable and why I don't believe it is out of place on this thread.

The thread is about who to target at the end of the year. You are talking free agency and a bloke who doesn't hit FA for a few years. I think you're confused.

Posted

Exactly, players to target... You can target a player a year out.

It doesn't say players to recruit for 2015.

I'm sorry I made the suggestion.

Clarke, he was considered one of the "Big Three" science fiction writers during his lifetime. Asimov's most famous work is the Foundation Series; his other major series are the Galactic Empire series and the Robot series. The Galactic Empire novels are explicitly set in earlier history of the same fictional universe as the Foundation series.

Black Sabbath are an English rock band, formed in Birmingham in 1969, by guitarist and main songwriter Tony Iommi, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler, singer Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward. The band have since experienced multiple line-up changes, with guitarist Iommi being the only constant presence in the band through the years. Originally formed in 1968 as a blues rock band named Earth, the band soon adopted the Black Sabbath moniker and began incorporating occult themes with horror-inspired lyrics and tuned-down guitars. Despite an association with these two themes, Black Sabbath also composed songs dealing with social instability, political corruption, the dangers of drug abuse and apocalyptic prophecies of the horrors of war.

I'd like Gary Ablett, Dane Swan, Lance Franklin, Kurt Tippett, dangerfield, swallow (both), Luke breust, Cyril Rioli, Stevie Johnson, Hawkins, Ron Barassi and Norm Smith

No chance, captain of the biggest club in the country, we can not offer his what he has there, his off field future is made for him at the Pies, Premiership Player, Norm Smith medallist whilst they have taken a step back this season they still have drafted very well looking at 2015 and beyond.

I'd love to get him but he would be crazy to move and IMO would not even consider it

Agree, he will not be going anywhere unless their is a major disaster at Pie Land. Whilst a lot of their supporters are crying at the moment they are really well set up for the future, close to the youngest team going around and loaded with talent. They just need to find a key forward to help/take over from Trav and they are well on the way.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
