WATTS, SHORT CIRCUITING OR NOT?

Featured Replies

Since you need someone to draw you a diagram...

No one is happy with Watts' performance, least of all me.

But it has become a bloodsport for stupid people who are bored during the match, hurling abuse whenever they see him on the field, regardless of whether he is at fault for something or not.

Irrespective of his performance, that crowd behaviour is not warranted, it is classless, and it is for the bottom feeders.

machsy you've got it arz about.

the bottom feeders are the ones like those who tangle battling people up in contracts for credit; credit they have no idea what they're getting into. like a big TV advertising Electrical & Homewares store. ripping people off. bottom feeding.

back to you harvey, er machsy.

Hahahhaha oh dear.

Any money you're one of them.

Nah. I save my abuse for demonland. I'd never do it face to face, but unlike you I understand those who do.

Thats the good thing about football it's a good chance for people especially "classy" people to be as you say a "bogan" for 2 hours.

As if any of us could ever believe that you could be classy

Johnny Rotten said, "You could always rely on the Sex Pistols. When the chips were down, we never came through."

Got voted worst on ground on 3MMM last night....

Probably because he was.

Still doesn't deserve the reaction he received.

We as supporters deserve and should demand better from out fellow supporters.

westhoff has been an absolute gun since his debut season - when he was 21.

if he was in victoria, he'd be considered a 'superstar', for want of a better term. he's not of course, but watts isn't a speck of grey on the hoff's beard by comparison.

What?! Westhoff has copped an inordinate amount of criticism for years.

He only found a semblance of toughness and consistency under Hinkley last season, and even that dropped off after a while.

Don't make up carp.

Spot on, but I have friends who are and they love going to the footy to have a beer and yell abuse, after all it is footy not badminton.

Sorry mate, but even if your friends come from the top end of town, they sound like they aren't classy.

I don't think you understand the term.

I went to a public school.

I've got bugger all money in the bank at the moment.

I live in a crappy little weatherboard that doesn't have much life left in it.

None of that precludes me from being classy. Nor classless.

Good for you, but when Watts puts out a performance like that for the second week in a row, you can understand why people go from being classy to a s s holes.

$cully got completely pantsed yesterday as well.

Jeebers we picked them. All for a $500,000 fine.

Good on ya Cam....

To be fair he was on Ablett and did well on him in the first half.

whod ever have thought that a thread or discussion about Watts would end up heading into the fertilizer siding ??

but given his state of play....probably apt

Ive always been a huge Watts supporter, but even i have to admit he is running out of time .

watts was particularly frustrating. I was surprised nev got the sub. I know his possession count was low and he got caught out a few times, but at least he was giving his all, and applying a load of pressure. nevs tackle count isn't indicative of his defensive efforts. watts on the other hand 'corralled' the sydney players. he ran around in S bends when he should've been manning up and chasing hard, not trotting. Even if his role was to be a loose man filling gaps, do it properly, take a leaf out of pedersens book. (never thought id say that)

Where did the "class" discussion come from?

I've got "class" but I don't have to brag about it - it's apparent.

its apparent Bbo by your head dress, but whats goin on with your blush? I hadn't noticed its rich hue before.

perhaps we can organise a swap, or a 3 way deal?

Nobody's going to want him, except for a third rounder if we're lucky.

He's basically mocked and laughed at by opposition players on the field.

He deserves it. He looks as though he is disinterested.

Will continue to cop it from me until he really runs his guts out.

When did it drop off, exactly? Westhoff is an undisputed gun.

Enjoyed your lecture on "class". Coming from one of the biggest snipers on this site. Ben-Hur lite, and a lot less entertaining.

In the real word, people shout at the footy.

In the real world, people give players an earful at the footy.

Supporters telling Watts that he needs to lift his game is not a cause for you to get on your high horse. Again.

While i agree with the fact that some in the crowd are slagging off at him even when he's doing something right, he kills off any chance of that not happening by being one of the poorest defensive/effort players on the field far too often.

On the second part, you seriously haven't attended enough matches, or maybe you have but it's been in a reserved seating "Redlegs" area or something, if you think there will be a time when there isn't bad behavior (which for others might appear to be normal footy crowd nonsense) or, in your words, "bottom feeders" getting their jollies at the expense of other supporters, players or umpires. It's been happening at the footy since the day dot. Don't stress so much about 'em. Just enjoy the match or i can guarantee you'll have very little hair left at the end of this season.

Its a terrible thing being bereft of confidence and having your supporters not supporting.

Jack needs to get back to basics and he needs our support . But each to there own .

I reckon he could turn it around with 5 minutes of footy to get himself going.

He might have class Ron but he doesn't get the ball. He is a fair weather footballer. He needs to be left up forward and let the men get the ball to him otherwise bye bye.

Or we persevere, knowing that he has all of the skills and hoping that with time and peer support he learns how to get more involved, on a consistent basis. Roos, Stone and Matthews can only do so much.. Jones and Cross are Watts' biggest on-field mentors in the hope of him turning things around.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
