How do they do it? Is it simply that they don't wait to see if their teammates will get the ball, they just assume they will and run into space. Risky, but if they do get it then they are away.

Freo were undermanned this evening, Barlow and Fyfe in particular.

They will be around when the whips are cracking.

I agree, they also put in a shocker completely out of character to how they usually play. I do suspect they are somewhat intimidated by Hawthorn unlike their aproach to other clubs. They have a long time to work it out before the finals though. Edited April 4, 2014 by america de cali

Yep not missing Buddy at all. Its funny how they are flying and Buddy is copping media attention and sydney are 0-2. They do play better without him.

It does show where Col is at when Freo lose 2 mids and col isnt selected.

Thought exactly the same thing but then I also understand that the way to stop the media from treating as as an easy target is to actually perform the way people expect a football team to perform.

Not that much, you wouldn't want to be relying on 2 or 3 players.

Hawthorn had more missing, they cover it better.

If you were going to pick the Grand Finalists now it would probably be Hawthorn v West Coast/ Port...but it's a long season ahead

Seeing Hawthorn play, they are in another league. We must take on at least 3 of their habits

1. 2nd and 3rd efforts. Scrap, bump, stay on your feet.

2. Tackling hard and physical to create pressure and turnovers

3. kicking to the Hot Spot ... 15 metres in front of goals. They all know where the ball is going. None of this leading to the boubdary line rubbish.

I still think we can change in one season. Roos must work out our skills are average and play a different style.

Hawthorn had Hodge, Lake (Susp. but same deal, did not play), McEvoy, Stratton. Sewell 50/50

Freo had Fyfe, Barlow, Dawson and one of the rucks Clarke or Griffin. Gumby 50/50

Barlow, Fyfe, Dawson, Bradley, Silvagni, Clarke, Griifin, Sylvia and they lost Ibbotson very early on.

Hawthorn were far too good and may well repeat the dose later on however Freo were well below their best both in personnel and performance.

The only walk up start in those is either Clarke or Griffin not both.

They were down with their key on ballers and it was a concern how much effect that had on the performance but it's only early days.

Huge wake up call for Fremantle - they have a lot of work to do if they want to win the flag, as they'll need to learn how to beat Hawthorn in Melbourne.

It's not the end of the season though. We've seen time and time again that you don't want to peak in April, you need to be ramping it up in August/September. Fremantle are still a very good side.
