Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Adam Goodes - Australian of the Year

Did you not see the word "doubt" ? Clearly that insinuates no proof, but merely instinct. Comprehension issues.

The publicity generated by that "incident" and Maguire's subsequent comments in my view gave racial intolerance (and Goodes) a tremendous profile.

I'm not suggesting it's all he's done in the community.

Yes ... it's the fact that you expressed doubt that the award really has anything to do with Goodes many achievements but was predicated on that incident that belies your conclusion.

You don't really need to explain yourself but thanks anyway.

In your opinion.

Clearly I differ, although I hastily acknowledge that the panel didn't need much of an excuse to throw the award in Goodes direction, which gives some veracity to your view.

next time someone insults me I'm going to have a big old sook about it to the entire country and then I'll be Australian of the year, sweet

I can help you with the first bit.

Now a couple of flags, a couple of brownlows and you'll be halfway there.

I hope you educate yourself one day.

You're better than this.

Dead set, this country disappoints me. It is so hopelessly anti intellectual. That people can't have a certain view on the appointment of an individual as Australian of the Year is simply pathetic. Then again, we laud Ned Kelly. The Yanks respect Thomas Jefferson. Says a lot really.

People have been labelled as racist on this thread. I can't see any clear evidence of obscene or racist views, but the label comes out, quite conveniently, because it is at odds with an opposing view.

Labels that are used to censor opposing opinions are generally the domain of the inarticulate. Calling someone uneducated over the keyboard is not particularly clever either.

I went to training and was going to post but I've obviously come to the wrong place.

Since there is an active training thread and you've chosen to post on this one, I'm guessing you're exactly where you want to be. For your own inscrutable reasons.

And that's why you should be banned. Thinking equality and human rights are "ideals" that you seem to not agree with, rather than rights.

Also for sprouting redneck rubbish on a footy site.

I think he's a little put out that yourself and HH are getting all of the cudos for being the worst posters on the site...and I reckon he may have just succeeded.

With all due respect, I assume you read C&B's comment that was being responded to? I thought from that it was patently obvious the reference was a suggestion to C&B that he educate himself with regards to that event and the wider reaching implications. And one other thing, the way people are reacting here almost suggests that Goodes nominated himself, hence so many of the insults being slung his way... maybe common sense would be better used than education. I am racist, and I'm also guilty of passing on my way of life to my daughter. It was less than six weeks ago I decided to decorate the house before my daughter arrived for Christmas. I even went as far as hanging Xmas lights in the lounge room window in full view of the street and anyone who should pass. What the bloody hell I thinking.

....oh sorry that's differant.

You made a sarcastic remark, gesturing that the reason he won his award was because of that incident.

Dig a bit deeper Jarka. He, like many throughout the country and including the other candidates are trying to implement positive change in our society. The fact that you even needed to make that remark is what's most confusing. Do you want attention?

Yes, I got a bit fiery. However I do feel that the older people are, the stronger their beliefs become about certain issues and therefore the less they'll go searching and less they'll accept to see or view things from another perspective.

Not everyone, but many.

(Happy birthday to the great man Steve)

Not always though 'steve', the older I get the more I think my opinions expand because I like to look at what is and what has been and also realise that everything is fluid. Opinions and ideas change the more experience and information I get. I know this is not everyone.

I've found many young and old with very fixed opinions but I did get where you were coming from.

Yes and happy birthday to Steve a great exponent of his craft.

Just making the point that people choose which racism bandwagon they want to jump on to.

I'm with Baghdad Bob, let's get back to the footy.

So is it OK if I choose the bandwagon that says that race is in no way a determinant of a person's worth, nor the dignity and respect with which they are entitled to be treated? Which is turning out to be a much smaller bandwagon than I thought it was.

Jeez we're an interesting bunch here.

One day let's organise an opening drinking session at the Precinct. 1pm opening card with Biffen and Moon debating BBO, with the final one around 10pm, 10 beers down between Stuie and Ben. What a day that'd be!

On a serious note, Adam Goodes aside, this award shows how much we over-value a sportsman in today's culture. They're seen as heroes because they can play sport well weekly on TV. It's quite interesting how we got here..

Congratulations to Adam, and like a few on here I really couldn't care less. I could tell you 2 of the last 10 recipients, and them having it on their resume doesn't make me look at them in a better light. It's just a semi meaningless award with a really good name...

Adam does do alot of charity work, but there is people who dedicate their lives to trying to integrate better relations between Aboriginal culture and the general Australian public.

Yesterday there was an article about Monash doctors who have world leading progress on Cancer treatment that moves a cure unimaginably closer.

What about the 85 year old people who have never retired instead tend to homeless people trying to get their lives back on track.

Adam Goodes does what every human should do, do his or her best to give back to those less fortunate or in worse positions, but I do agree that without the outcry of this year's situation, he'd just be another appreciated footballer.

Well done Adam, but in my opinion, there are for more deserving members of the Australian public. Keep up the good work nevertheless.

Ban all those that disagree with you, Eh Stuie? You'd be on your Pat Molone pretty quickly once the ball gets bounced in anger.

Did I say he should be banned for disagreeing with me or did I say in a few posts in this thread that I'm all for heated discussion? Sprouting ignorance behind the false mask of "freedom of expression" is the crutch of the redneck and (I thought) fairly transparent to most people here.

Obviously not...

What some of us don't like and some of you don't understand, is that without the incident with a 13 year old girl I doubt Goodes wins the award. Declaring a 13 year old girl as "the face of racism in Australia" was outrageous by Goodes. The girl stated post the event that she didn't even know Goodes was indigenous. She was merely yelling at a big man with a big black beard running towards her. Who am I to call her a liar. And even if she knew what she was doing her treatment was appalling.

You're missing the point.

By stating that she was the face of racism he wasn't saying she is the most racist person in Australia, rather that racism has become so ingrained in our country that it has an innocent face.

That is also the point about someone using a term without even realizing how racist it is.

But you just live in your denial and accept the casual racism this country is known for.

This type of idiocy sums up this thread, and has really brought Demonland down a few pegs in my book.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
