I guess he was going so well, and without a strong midfield, coaches wanted his kicking skills across half back, ready for the handball. Thing is, it was too easy for the opposition to shut down.

Back at his peak under Daniher, he was dynamite running down opposition backmen though.

I agree. Some players just don't seem to be able to become midfielders. Take Colin Sylvia for instance. He will tear it up next year as a dedicated half forward. No midfield for him.

Which raises an interesting point about some of the players selected top 10 in this years draft. Eg Billings a half forward, Scharenberg a half back. Both their clubs say they are going to turn them into midfielders. It doesn't necessarily work that way as we've seen.

Pfft what a load of crud. He was a one trick pony as a small forward as a chase and run down guy. And defenders started to work that out and small forwards had to all pressure and tackler more than chase and run down. Aaron wasn't an amazing crumber or a good mark so he was hardly an elite small forward.

His best attributes was his burst speed and dynamite kicking and his best season came as a midfielder.

The unfortunate thing was a few hamstring issues, a dodgy knee and an overall poor endurance base meant he could never sustain top class AFL fitness needed to be a pure outside link up player and a lack of hardness also limited his career.

Standing on shifted ground. But do you still stand by your generalisation about Aboriginal players' dedication? Or did that get a bit hot for you?

Actually, it is my understanding that indigenous players are well OVER represented on afl playing lists compared to in overall Aust population. Takes a fair bit of dedication and effort to get on an afl list, I would have thought. I (and I reckon many on here) would love to have the dedication and skill to make it that far.

Getting back to Aaron Davey, it is a shame that it was Richmond that not only saw fit to make him an indigineous ambassador/mentor for their AFL Club but now it appearss that he is going to be playing for their VFL team (against Casey). After all his years of good service at Melbourne, it is an indictment that MFC and Casey could not have identified similar roles for Aaron within their structures as it it is not as though Aaron would not have fitted into Casey's best 22 even when most of the Demons team list are fit.

Getting back to Aaron Davey, it is a shame that it was Richmond that not only saw fit to make him an indigineous ambassador/mentor for their AFL Club but now it appearss that he is going to be playing for their VFL team (against Casey). He was smaller than Flower and when his hamstrings went so did his best weapon. You do acknowledge the hamstrings but your comment on hardness is just wrong and i reckon quite rude. LIKE! Davey had a lot of heart and skill and always seemed to lft the team somewhat this year when brought in as a sub (after it was too late). He never shirked the contest, was one of our best tacklers and managed goals that nobody else was capable of.

Hey KC, how are VFL lists put together? For ex-MFC listed players who retire or are delisted (ie, J Tynan, Couch, Magner and Davey from the above list) does that also automatically remove them from Casey's list too? How do they get on other teams' lists?
