James Magner

Crap article.

I have little respect for a plodder who kicks the club when he doesn't get his own way.

Accept it, Magner: you're just not good enough.

This has already been mentioned in the Magner, Taggart, Stark delisted thread.

I guess if you're really that great James you will get another chance on someone else's list.

Personally I think you did all you could and got the most out of yourself which all supporters should applaud you for.

But at the end of the day the decision makers wanted to move you on - it happens to a great nymber of players each year unfortunately.

Pointing the finger and being critical of the group who gifted you the chance in AFL is not really the best move right now

I've always rated Jimmy and I can't help but feel sorry for him.

When you look at the Emma Quayle piece about Jonesy and with what Jimmy talks about in this article - just shows how mentally challenging to past two years must have been.

It's time to move on to the new chapter, the Roos and Jackson era....

I can see where he is coming from Neeld seriously has alot to answer. He will go down as one of the worst coaches in history. This bloke was suppose to come in and change the culture yet he has made it even worse. Shows how much of a dysfunctional club we were this year.

Unlike Tagget Magner did deserve to play a couple more games this year.

Though Magner doesnt need to come out and publicly [censored] on the club that gave him a chance.. showing his true colour and form. though I guess that's what happens when your close mates with Brock Mclean.. I actually hope he doesnt get picked up now.

Crap article - even crappier headline (in the paper): "Demons in disarray." I would be obliged if anyone can point out to me how Magner having a sook about being left out of the side becomes a "picture of dysfunction and confusion".

Mind you, it is mind-boggling to hear the mixed messages under Neeld's regime.

On entering the club I remember him stating precisely that it was something that would not happen under his reign, and feedback would be open, honest and clear.

No player would be left wondering why they weren't playing, or what they needed to work on to play.

Obviously he didn't walk the walk.

It was disappointing to read the Hun article this morning, with the departed James Magner slamming the Melbourne Football Club for being dysfunctional. Although the people that he criticised are now gone (Neeld and Craig), he is certainly going about things in a strange way if he now trying to promote himself into another AFL Club. I realise that he has had supporters in 'Land (me included for a while) however the reality is that he was not up to AFL despite securing 52 touches in his last VFL game. It is somewhat ironic that he now plans to work on his fixed gear bike business as possibly this was his greatest failing!

I've always rated Jimmy ...

Let's see if any of the other 17 clubs share your opinion. Or his for that matter.

Oh well life goes on

Sucked in by Ralph. He's good at doing that to nobody's, and James got sucked in.

You were given an opportunity millions of kids dream of, and you weren't good enough. No wonder our culture was rubbish when players feel like the club owe them something.. The only thing I take from this article is clearly Neeld could be remembered as the worst AFL coach ever.

Ordinary player in ordinary side confused as to why he is delisted.

He aint doing himself any favors by these articles. Why would any team want to draft a player who couldnt break into the midfield of a bad side then slams the club when delisted. Would not help the culture anywhere.

Talks like the club owe him something. Newsflash, he was never drafted and we threw him a lifeline as a rookie for 2 years. His 2 years was up and he obviously didn't add enough as a mature aged player and Matt Jones took his gig.

I think he has every right to question why he didn't get a game last year but to question why he was delisted is a bit rich consdiering new coach etc.

Mind you, Magner might appear in another media outlet within the next 24 hours claiming he was taken out of context. The story did appear in the Herald Sun, after all,

Taken out of context, misquoted, sorry if I offended anyone.

they really do get creative in ways to slam us don't they?

if we hadn't just delisted him would they even have a clue who James Magner is?

the bloke couldnt get a game in the worst midfield of all time and has just gone further backwards in the pecking order with five new midfielders coming to the club. Obviously he has hit his ceiling and is not getting any better.

why in the name of God would we keep Magner on the list? As depth? We would need to have about 10 midfielders injured at once for him to make the side FFS

the media has really lost the plot.. pack of bottom-feeding scumbags the lot of them

I reckon he had every right to feel a little aggrieved last year as the midfield was absolute poo and his form in the VFL was top notch. He surely deserved more than 2 games.

However, as the club has picked up Michie, Tyson, Vince and Cross, it's obvious the competition for spots in the midfield is going to be greater. Jim needs to look at this from two aspects.

First aspect: He should have gotten a game last year If he feels upset about that then fair enough.

Second aspect: The club has clearly stocked up in the midfield and based on the current pecking order, it's going to be tough for him to get a game. This isn't anything personal (though I guess it would be hard not to take it personally), just a numbers decision.

While Magner might have been in our most capable 22 players, the club clearly made a focus to develop its younger players. I think the problem with Magner is that he compared himself to other second year players rather than as a 26 y/old player with limited upside and only a few years of football ahead of him.

My brother went to school with Jimmy and told me that he imports those bikes from China very, very cheaply and apparently made a respectable income from it over the past year.

He sells them here:

He wont lack for a crust.

Was also told his disposal was a huge issue even in high school footy. My brother reckons the only thing he had going for him was that he was an absolute training machine. The two of them didn't get along and my brother was pretty happy when he heard Jimmy was delisted. But Jimmy played AFL and he didn't so I reckon I know who wins that one.

I think it's pretty clear Matt Jones brought more the table, fortunate for us but unfortunate for Jimmy. I hope he gets another chance somewhere else.

Ordinary player in ordinary side confused as to why he is delisted.

I would have been happy with an ordinary side in 2013 but the MFC had an VFL standard side

Everybody imports everything from China 'very, very cheaply'.

This has already been mentioned in the Magner, Taggart, Stark delisted thread.

Probably deserved a thread of it own.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
