Given that the pres, board, CEO and football department were more or less hand picked and paid for by the afl, if there was a push from the afl for mfc to become the new northern territory franchise who at the club would stand in their way?

They were helped into their positions by the AFL for one simple reason. To repair and rebuild Melbourne into a flagship team . Its is everything that Football in Melbourne ought to be about ( when we're up and going )

This is nothing about readying a ship to sail north.

I can think of about 35000 + that woud stand in their way

About the same chance as Hawthorn have of becoming the Tasmanian Hawks...?

We're playing up there to secure more and continued funding from Tourism NT, not to move up there. That's just foolish. Any venture that would see more than 3 games played in the top end will be a disaster for players' health, and the other clubs won't stand for it, even if Melbourne were to fold. The fact that temperature will increase in the next century won't make it any more viable...

What about the following

Hobart Demons

Brisbane Demons

Sydney Demons

Adelaide Demons

Perth Demons - already exists

But my vote is for the Melbourne Demons!

When you are on a good thing stick with it

Firstly the members would have to vote for it.

Secondly the AFL wouldn't force a move that is detrimental to their interests. Why would they move a team with 35k members with the chance to increase to 40-45k to a place where two men and a dog would show up to watch any game. Also advertisers don't give a crap about the ratings points in NT so it won't increase the TV rights therefore I don't think there's any risk of being sent to the NT permanently.

Before it even comes to that good Dr, the AFL has to have the desire and NT the market.

It's like these idiots running around saying Tassie will get us.

There is no market to capture; it is already AFL-oriented, the commercial opportunities are limited, and the AFL is a little pre-occupied - in both attention and money - with their investment in GWS and GC.

Both of which should get a team before markets that cannot support a team gets one - like NT, Tasmania, and ACT.

The AFL would never do away with the Melbourne brand as it is too important, particularly when the MCG is the spiritual home of football (and we started off as the MCC Football Club). If we realy are expected to embrace Darwin, i would be prepared to see us become the Melbourne Salties (salt-water crocodiles) as a team that nobody tangles with!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
