Just say the top 5 go like this in any order Boyd, Kelly, Scharenberg, Billings, Aish. With McDonald at 8.

In the mix at 9 will most likely be Sheed, Lennon, Bontempelli, Taylor, Freeman.

We would be silly to pick a skinny midfielder, Bontempelli and Freeman have size ready to play AFL.

Bontempelli 194cm 85kg might provide different dimension with his height (similar to Cale Morton) BUT has a bigger built.

I know size isn't everything but Aish, Kelly and Billings all look like they need a fair bit of work in the weights room before they can match it with men.

I think at pick 9 Bontempelli is our man for and immediate impact next year, anyone agree?

Freeman is excellent at stoppages and has explosive pace. We need pace. It's probably a no brainer.

Spot on. Now we have extra skilled players pace is the most important attribute to add to our list. The two at the top of the list would be Freeman and Lennon. Freeman was my choice all along but I'm warming to Lennon because of his extra height and slightly better kicking length and accuracy. Would be happy if either fell to our pick.

Fascinating that the pies want to upgrade 10 to 6. With Mcdonald at 8 that only puts them ahead of brisbane at 7 and us at 9 - they must be worried their target will be picked there - I wonder who?

Bontempelli almost sounds a bit like a Koutoufides type. we could do with a big Goodes type mid.

we need so many to come thru, it doesn't matter as the long as the kid becomes a player.

I don't think we'll be big shakers till the 2015 season.

2014,,, 7 - 8 wins imo.

Posted

We desperately need to pick up another experienced mid before next season.

So far we have lost 2 experienced mids in Sylvia & Rodan .

We have picked up Vince & 2 players with a total of 14 games plus another mid from the draft with no experience.

Our midfield will be close to the most inexperienced in the league.

One thing we can do is learn from our mistakes, and drafting people who lack confidence and the ability to perform on the big stage against men.

That's why we should be picking up Daniel Cross.

Give him a two year contract and watch our young midfield grow under this bloke.

what does it matter? He will have a nickname anyway

we should have a comp for best nick

how about "coke" as in Kola------?

Can just imagine the chant: Coca Kola, coca kola! Sounds good

Was told all along that we would be picking Freeman at 2 if we had it. So am certain he will go at 9 if he is still available. Fingers crossed!

And the recruiter only gets what, 2 minutes, to call the name on draft day....or will they accept a number and initials?? :-)

Would like for him to go top 10, just to see AD struggle with his name.

Bontempelli is the name that keeps bobbing up.

Mahoney's comment was along the lines of being very pleased about replenishing our midfield while remaining in the top 10 in the draft. As Oucher said, that implies that they've got designs on a player or two in the draft. Furthermore, we're getting tight on list spots, and if we trade out 9 our first pick will be at 40. I expect a whole lot of sitting on our hands for the last week of trade week. Our job here is done.

Actually thats the interesting bit Nasher.

I think the key targets that we wanted to bring into the club might be done until draft day, I wonder whether we have leaving the club in the next week.

I would not be surprised (But I would be extremely disappointed) about Frawley, given Roos comments about players being drafted out prior to becoming free agents. But a couple of players like Tapscott, Blease etc, might be shopped about...

I also have heard that the pies are into Bomtempelli in a big way, and I think he is their target that they want to secure.

Yes. have heard that is the main reason Pies want to get in earlier! Better not take our Frreman though!

Gonna be great if it's Lennon, imagine all the nick names - Yoko, Beatle, Sargent Pepper

Yeah Yeah If we get Lennon, we have Vince, Tyson and Jones...the fab four

IMO we will sit on pick 9 as we have no players we are willing to trade of any round 1 value and that is where the best chance is of picking up a good midfielder will be

This draft seems to fall away quite sharpy around the mid 20.s

No doubt there will be a couple of rough diamonds in the later picks

Toby Nankervis for example although he is not a genuine need for us

Cannot see us giving a deisted player another chance except for Cross

Mitch Thorp looks like he has turned the corner with an outstanding 2012 in Tassie

Dayle Garlett might also get his last chance somewhere

My pick 9 would be Nathan Freeman

South Australian Football people seem to like players that are from South Australia and the only possible trade i can think of is Luke Tapscott from North Adelaide

Jamar is also from North Adelaide and both Clisby and Stark are South Australians

Think it would be the only way to get Jarryd Lyons in a Demon Jumper

The Crows and Port would be looking at Aish, Dunstan and Dumont in this draft

Jack Trengove is a must keep however

Gee, shall we break out into song?

I've only seen these players on tv, so I accept that my exposure is too limited to make an educated call, but if I was basing pick 9 purely from what I'd seen it would be hard to go past Luke Dunstan. For some reason he's not the flavour of the month and with Tyson on board we may now want a bit more outside run, but this guy has the body, the inside grunt, clean hands, good kicking skills, goal kicking ability and leadership to do an Ollie Wines and impact AFL footy from day one.

Jones, Vince, Viney, Tyson, Michie, Trengove, Dunstan works for me.

I'm in the same boat, Ben, but from the little I've seen, I'd say the Freeman type would be hard to go past. He seems like a more explosive type of player. It sounds like he'd compliment our midfield group nicely. Explosiveness isn't something I see anywhere else in our midfield. I do like Dunstan though, on the little I've seen, and thought the exact same thing RE: Wines, when watching the Championships on TV.

Sheed, Freeman or Crouch, all fit the bill very well.

and i rate all three ahead of Kelly and Aish.

Eh doubt any of them will pick Crouch top 8 and i would not be at all upset if we landed him at pick 9

I dont want to be greedy but is there any way we can obtain Freeman & Crouch? Are there any players worthy of trading for the ability to obtain both these two? Tapscott & Blease wont cut it, I have suggested Frawley before only if he wants out but personally cant see how to recruit both players...anyone see a way?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
