I am very happy with the results that have been achieved by our recruiters so far. Of course there will be the critics but our list has been significantly improved by the additions.

Dom Tyson looks a gun and he is ready to go. At 20 he is aware of what is required to succeed as an AFL player and the normal teething problems associated with draftees will be avoided. Bernie Vince is a proven big game player, a big body and a beautiful kick. Michie may well prove to be the best of all. Still only 21, he has had terrible luck with injuries but despite that the 2013 runner-up was prepared to re-contract him. At pick 54, it was a steal.

With pick 9 we still have the opportunity of a gun draftee but perhaps another trade is on the cards. Who knows?

I also think that the recruitment of George Stone may well prove to be our best appointment.

Im happy with the Tyson trade... Seems very balanced... Win/Win... I would have liked to have keep pick 20, but when you consider that this is a compromised draft(last years mini draft) and that Dom Tyson was selected as a uncompromised pick 3... We did ok...

Hope we arn't finished yet.... Id like to see us pick up Daniel Cross, Marrick Weller... Maybe Bugg in the p.s.d? Rookie Nahas? Is Josh Toy still playing footy? Wouldn't mind rookie listing him... Would be great if we rookie Jurrah.... Would really lift supporter numbers next year...

The influence of 'master coach', Paul Roos, is clearly evident.

As I wrote elsewhere, I think it is significant that they have postponed the appointment of a successor. This may mean they have someone in mind for next year, or it may also mean that Roos is so encouraged by what he is assembling- and he should be -that he is tempted to commit for 5-8 years. Let's hope it is the latter.

Remember also, they have not completed the coaches appointment yet. I still think Michael Voss might be in the frame. If he was prepared to listen and learn under Roos, then in five years time he might just be his perfect replacement. He would certainly bring deep football experience, and an incredible will to win. My doubts about him are more that I suspect he is nothing like as smart as Roos, or a Simpson for that matter, and may not have the same commitment to the culture that Roos is building. Still I guess those issues would emerge over time. In view of that, I don't think the appointment of an assistant coach should come with a guarantee you will get the top job.

I'm sure PJ and PR are on top of these issues, as they seem to be with everything else.

Isn't it great to have full confidence in our leaders at the Club. It makes a pleasant change.

I think once we appoint a successor he really has no choice but to hand it over - he can't just say "oo I'm quite enjoying this do you just want to sit this one out."

If after 2-3 (more likely 3) years he has belief in the direction of the club then I can see him staying on in some kind of overseer role like Craig did for Neeld (or maybe a less official role).

Every year we take some angle like picking up players to get their on-field experience despite the fact that they are now rejects. Or the year before rushing to get an in-experienced coach that Malthouse praised from a recently successful club. And every year I wonder whether that angle is what we will be damning in a year or 2.
