Trade week radio earlier interviewed Josh Mahoney. When prompted with the question regarding the no.2 pick and the Dees intentions, Mahoney intimated that it was "highly likely" the Demons would be trading the pick for established quality talent; giving up pick 2 overall in the National Draft.

He stated there were 4 or 5 candidates who they had in mind (or were talking too).

He also stated that the club had done everything they could to keep Colin Sylvia, they now await to hear from him of his intentions.

I'm speculating but I believe they've been scouring for players from other clubs wanting to return home contracted or not. They've most likely put out decent bait, and they've 'highly likely' caught a decent fish.

I thought much the same. The club is doing a nice job of keeping us all speculating.

What I was meant to add was that they've been doing it for some time.

And I've since realised the exact same sort of discussion has been going on in the other thread in relation to Mahoney's revealing comments.

It's funny that the rumours circulating have been about Victorian players in the correct age bracket at interstate clubs that are relatively struggling.

Sloane, Rockliff, Scott Selwood, GWS players...

Even Swallow, although from WA, has Victorian ties and has struggled a bit himself.

Maybe there is some truth to one of them.

But I'd still expect a good return for pick 2 if we are bent on trading it.

This revelation by Mahoney that we're "highly likely" to trade it, makes me wonder if we're trying to sniff out any other possibilities that haven't yet revealed themselves.

The media is a pretty good vehicle for advertising to other clubs your intentions.

Speculative but wouldn't it be a KOTD moment if MFC were able to secure one that had his mind set on returning home; perhaps still contracted; had knowledge of the soon to be official 'offer', regarded as a quality mid; 22-24yrs of age with 50 or more games under his belt.

Please let it be a Shuey, Sloane, Selwood, Polec type.

Awesome if we could downgrade a first round pick and perhaps organise another KOTD moment, before end of trade.

Two mids would meet Roos' and fans expectations.

Using the words "highly likely" indicates to me that a deal is either very close or done.

It is stronger that the usual lines trotted out ie " we'll trade it for the right deal" " open to the possibility" etc.

It's fun speculating.

This is exactly what I took it to be, M. An opportunity to flush out any other potential candidates by pimping the pick.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm almost certain trade week radio is only weekdays 9am to 5pm so that could be a problem.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
