With all due respect, how did everyone not see the problems with FA coming when it was first brought up years ago? Im sorry but this was so obvious. It will only benefit the stronger clubs and will only get worse as the system is worked over more effectively by the big clubs. To my absolute bewilderment there seems to be a few people who are genuinely suprised as the penny is finely dropping that FA is not a good thing for the weaker clubs. No S%*t.

Fair enough. Suppose I've realised it for quite a while, but sometimes these threads are more about venting steam than anything else. I just get so angry sometimes. Kind of live in hope; maybe we'll uncover another RDB or a Carey, or stop picking duds, or fluke a flag. Just one, before I die, would do me.

Then, alas, reality kicks in.

FA was always going to come. There would have been a legal challenge otherwise...

It's inevitable in sports, and we have a soft one with compensation, and that comp is tailored to the lower clubs when they lose players.

Tinkering can be made and should be done, but FA is here to stay and it will not destroy those not already heading for destruction.

There is no evil here.

So if you think it was inevitable on legal grounds, is it not also inevitable that some day someone will also challenge the restrictions the AFL currently puts around it? Then say goodbye to the clubs and the comp as we know them.

Not a world I want to see, but it is the result of the commercialisation of every aspect of society in recent decades. Maybe evil is too strong a word but it's not far off.

we can't control the players in the pursuit of their careers, but the Clubs ability to participate in the F/A can be controlled...

ashes to ashes dust to dust, the ways of nature are all about recycling & regeneration. we have to give more support to regeneration & the air is naturally thinnner the higher you venture... as it should be. naturally.

this is the essence of balance & regrowth.

All it would take it a few powerful clubs to act up and you will end up with an EPL setup.....marvelous

Public ownership of football a la the 60's, the 70's, the 80's has already been forgotten. Punters are being gently massaged into the new normal all the time. It is a sure thing that the rich and powerful will rule the roost and we will forget it was ever any other way. You only have to listen to BBC World Sport, (EPL) and the commentators only ever mention the power clubs , it's like the others don't exist. And Australia is supposed to be more egalitarian than the poms...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
