They will be given a new game plan.

Hopefully it will be one that the younger guys can adopt.

Port were told to go out and be bold, take the game on.

We were told defend, play boring football. We didn't have the skills to play a boring defensive game plan.

Let's hope Roosies plan is similar to Port.

Top 8 next year isn't out of the question but we need to manage expectations every year.

i'd be happy just to win back some respect, not get laughed at for wearing my mfc polo would be nice

for us to make top 8 a few things need to happen imo

1. need to trade and recruit well, at least 2 ready to go mids, maybe a half back and half forward ( Adams, Sloane, Greenwood fit the bill for me, develop jetta as our back pocket specialist, and Barry or Blease as the small forward

2. we need to stay injury free, keeping Clark, Dawes and Frawley on the park for as much of 2014 as possible would be vital

3. Hogan, Clark and Dawes would need to combine for around the 100 goal mark, ( i think this is realistic if the midfield improves )

4. Trengove needs to have a breakout year, remind the world why he was a pick 2

basically, if our midfield improves, our very good looking forward line of

Watts Dawes Hogan

Howe Clark Blease will get plenty of chances to kick a winning score ( it's going to cause some headaches either way )

Viney, Toumpas and Kent should continue to rise anyway

All Australian quality years from, Frawley, Garland, Jones, Clark and Watts would be very nice.

yep

with the competition evened out ,I can see a lot of middle of the road teams 2014

2 mids and getting some basic errors out of the current squad should lesson the goals kicked against us

this will keep us in with a chance of winning more often/what roos did at Sydney

dropped out of top flight will be /pies/brizzy/gws/stk/wc/with some doubts over Sydney/Adelaide/geelong/Essendon

so not an unusual thing to imagine a push up for the dees.PA proved this year that getting 5 early wins on the board made sure they only had to win7/17 and could roll young players through the hard times and keep them up for the expected winnable games

so not out of the realms

the biggest day has not arrived as yet, that will be list settlement day, when we find out what roos was looking at for the last 10 weeks

500/1... MFC to get into the top 8

aim would be 6 wins or more in 2014

In another thread I think I picked us to finish 12th next year... but I suppose it really all comes down to who we pick up over the trade/free agency period and in the drafts. If we manage to get a couple of classy mids, to feed our obviously strong forward line, anything could happen and those odds for a place in the 8 could take a nose dive.

Billion to One

But in the world of AFL were is always a chance.

I feel better about 2015 and beyond for the eight.

This train wreck will not be turned around over night.

Wins is pointless discussing in this stage. Instead, ill be looking for a group of 22 who each week give it their all. For 120 minutes they will kill for the footy. Tackles, contented possessions, defensive and attackive pressure, scoreboard pressure and center clearances the only statistic that matter. Only then will I start dreaming of wins. Watching Port tonight made me really respect them. For a team which was shot, within 12 months have turned that club around. Unfortunately; the Melbourne Football Club is significantly behind Port Adelaide right now. Fortunately, the MFC might just raise some eyebrows in 2014. I will wait (not holding my breath) until 4 games into the season before considering giving 'odds' on wins nor purchasing a membership.

If Roos can get us 6 wins next year and a percentage around 80, I'd consider that a good result and a step in the right direction.

I'd settle for the 80%.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
