Who could argue with thinking like that.

I can judge a senior coach like Neeld because each week I get to see how his team plays, the structures that are in place and the desire his chargers play with but for the life of me, I've got no idea how so many so easily judge the quality of assistant coaches.

I would have absolutely no idea if Leigh Brown or Scott Burns could coach.

Yeah and like Hardwick the thought was not that Burns wasn't going to be a good coach but that he wasn't quite ready when he initially applied. The extra time at West Coast then the 2-3 years under Roos should be more than enough experience if he's got the skills and drive.

five years at WCE under Worsfold 3 years at MFC under Roos and a career as a player under Mick Malthouse, he will have a very good idea how a quality premiership coach operates.

I actually thought that watching the elimination final, Carlton got a run on and the only move he seemed to make was to put 1 player behind the ball, obviously you have to back the structures in place to some extent but the teams inability to stop the momentum cost them the game and their season.

He is continually caught out when the momentum shifts in games, it cost Richmond the close ones last year and some big games this year. He doesn't seem to read the game quickly enough to make adjustments on the run, to tied down by preordained plans.

Seems this like alot of cases may be a situation where the club may need to change coaches to take the next step, Hardwick has done a good job building a strong list but someone like Choco would be able to read the game as you say and help them improve that 10-15% that would make them a premiership contender.

I don't really rate Choco as a coach, I always thought Alan Scott was right.

Hardwick's real test will come next year, he will need to win finals or he will go the way of Harvey and Ratten.

I don't know, but his role at the Swans has been greater than recruiting. He is largely respected for his player development and resurrection skills. Kennedy, McGlynn, Kennelly, etc. VERY highly rated. A BIG get.
