On AFL 360 tonight, Gerard's "Sure Thing" for this weekend is that Sunday will be "The last day of a Dismal Demon Era".

Man, do we ever hope that proves to be true, and we come out in 2014 a rejuvenated and exciting outfit!

Here's to 2014 and beyond...!!

Well done BB. The plot has been made thicker from your four words. I thought it was a throw away line by GW but you may be onto something.

As good as Whately is, I doubt he'd know anything really juicy and I doubt even further he could keep it quiet.

Maybe he was just voicing the hopes and dreams of all of us poor, pathetic, ever hopeful Dees supporters...!

Its getting to the pointy end. For some its finals and the road you travel to them. For others its another path, to hope. But now urgency accelerates, feet get jittery, lips purse, throats dry.

For some teams the season goes on, for others it morphs into a new one. Many hope its like caterpillars and butterflies, from something ordinary comes some amazingly brilliant.

Caterpillars are fair game though and often things just don't go the way we hope.

The temptation to colour in the pages is great !!!

A vague notion is a bit much for such a grandious "throw away"

I think we will regenerate from 2014 onwards.

We have numerous problems but the main one ATM is a massive lack of confidence. A new coach and a new approach can change that. Some changes to the playing list will also start turning things around. We introduced a number of first year players in 2013 and they will be better for the experience.

Thank goodness. Finally a reporter saying something positive about us. I WANT to believe this but I get a bad feeling something awful will come out of our drugs probe.

Even if he knew Roos was coming, it's still a ridiculous statement. Even with Roos, we're not going to jump above the bottom six teams next year. Covert sensationalism from Whatley. I know it'd be nice to think the pain is all over, but we're still looking at a bottom six finish next year. That's must surely be considered part of a dismal era. Unless we have a simply outstanding FA and trading period, I really can't see our D grade midfield improving enough in the space of six months to mount any sort of challenge to the top eight teams next year. Wow. Listen to me. Talk about cynical. I'd also call it realistic.

I think hes right

with PJ on board and a successful experienced coach on the way, (whether that be Roos, CHoso or Eade) the dark days will be over

I think he probably knows that we are to get a priority pick, but is unable to talk about it til after this weekend's matches, and shortly following that announcement will be the arrival of a 4 letter word beginning with R...

And then comes Vlad and his henchmen to wreck more damage on the MFC.

I don't believe it will be the good times but at best just the recovery time.

- My guess is he doesn't know anything that isn't in the public arena. This is just his gut feeling which he often goes with.

- A bottom six finish, AF? I dream of getting out of the bottom four. If we can manage to take a few scalps other than the expansion teams, and be competitive against the rest, that would absolutely be an end of the dismal era. It would mean the club is finally moving up, not down. For the record I don't see next year bringing much relief and I think bottom four beckons, but hopefully we see genuine improvement.

- The excuse about being low on confidence is wearing a bit thin. I'm not counting it out, but Craig doesn't instil confidence in them? Why not? I think we have to face up to the fact that many of the players we drafted in this period just aren't that good. Look at Gysberts. Taken out of the toxic environment and still stinking it up. Confidence in terms of trusting in each other on the field is another matter.

GW is a [censored], same as his fat mate Robbo. Both don't know s#%t!

GW has this little whiny annoying voice that makes me want to slap him, and Robbo is a bogan who just loves the sound of his own voice.

Anyways, if you can't tell 360 is my favorite show ;)

If we lose Sylvia and Watts, which appears likely, our list will be even worse than it was this year. We have lost/royally stuffed up so many first round draft picks - it's bordering on ridiculous.

I cannot see much improvement next year, even if Jesus Christ is appointed as head coach.

In all my years supporting this club, I've never been this low. It's rock bottom for me at the moment.

I'm actually flirting with the idea of supporting GWS.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
