The if you can't get Dustin Martin get Reece Conca Thread

Martin still hasn't signed and Conca has a big money offer from the Eagles.

Neck Tatts wants to go to the Swans but they don't want him for cultural rather than monetary reasons.

I imagine both will stick with the Tigers.

News to me on Conca, would not be surprised if Martin stays with the Tiges they won't be able to afford to keep Conca

Scott Selwood to MFC

Reece Conca to WCE

? to RFC

I'd offer Watts. Maybe Fitzy.

Richmond needs a better forward line.

But considering they're losing a mid, they'd maybe go for something like Kent & a 2nd rounder.

Long shot.

Wouldn't be too surprised if this deal goes ahead, but with MFC being cut out of it.

I'd be tabling an offer for both players. It sounds like they can't afford both. Martin also sounds like he is asking for 25 year old gun money not 22 year old gun money. We have cap space to burn and I'd be happy to take him on if Roos is (I think we've got most of the poor off field culture out of the club and we now need to add the onfield quality.

Tigers would want more than we would want to offer in trade terms regarding picks for Martin and probably for Conca too (I expect they would want a first rounder for both, I'd give a pick 2 for Martin only if it was a 5 year deal, and only give a second rounder for Conca). Who knows their list well? Are there any gaps we could trade to fill?

Wouldn't touch Martin, apart from his off field issues he is highly overrated on field. What he does looks good but he doesn't do enough of it.

We should be chasing both players but neither are worth pick 2.

Off field issues are a concern. On field though, he is a better kick of the footy than anyone on our list by a mile. Does go missing for large chunks of time during games, but when he is on, he can be devastating.

To get him over to Melbourne we'd have to pay massive overs. I just think you'd want a bit more reliability in a player when paying such serious cash for their signature.

So...do you think he is overrated? being a long kick is not the be all and end all.

No I think he is a gun and that it's extremly unlikely we'll see him or Conca at Melbourne

A gun who goes missing for large chunks of the game, your words. A great kick who often misses his targets or takes the wrong options, my words. Don't confuse a long powerful kick as being a good kick.

Most would have said it was very unlikely you'd see Mitch Clark at Melbourne, and people certainly said it's very unlikely Paul Roos would coach Mfc.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
