Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We are so desperate for mids aren't we that we get all gobsmacked over this guy...shows just where we are at as a club

I think a lot of us are desperate to see anything done by our club, just to get the ball rolling. The only action we've seen so far is being turned down by a fairly green assistant coach.

I don't think most of us are overrating this guy. Realistically he doesn't have much value in trade for Freo, although the fact that he is contracted could allow them to hold out for better than he's worth. He's a third round pick who has played 1 game for them in a fairly stacked midfield. We should be able to get him for our fourth round pick, but might have to spend our third rounder instead. If Freo decide to be accommodating we might even get to spend a pick in the eighties on him, much like the deal for Morton last year with WC.

I doubt that the WAFL would be as strong as the VFL. So playing 'great' football there, but failing to get a game with Freo, is much like Magner and other regular VFL standard players on our list. I'd take it with a grain of sand. I can't get excited about Michie. Hope I'm wrong!

I'm not sure how your comparing Michie to Magner when Michie is on the fringe of one of the better Midfields in the league and Magner can't get a regular game in one of the worse Midfields in the comp.

Admitedly Magner is on the rookie list but he is still yet to prove himself and Michie is the same but winning his clubs B n F as a 21 yr old says he knows how to play the game to me. I'll be excited to see Viv hopefully flourish under Roos but will not hold any high expectations on the kid immediately.

You kidding mate, have you seen any games, I have seen both levels and little difference in both. I think WAFL defeated VFL in a close one this year

Our fourth pick is close to there third round pick anyway

If our midfield featured the quality of Fyfe, Hill, Mundy, Barlow, Crowley and so on and we were in the top 4 and had a coach who notoriously plays mature players over kids then you'd think the talent of guys not getting games in the reserve comp would be quite different to one of the worst teams in history.

Not to mention Michie is coming off his first decent AFL preseason and is only 21 so still has a tremendous amount of development potential. I'm not calling him the saviour or expecting 22 games and him to be our 3rd best mid behind Jones and Viney but I do expect that if fit he'd play plenty of games. He also has skills and the ability to play half forward and midfield. All in all he's the kind of player we should've been drafting and developing and exactly what we need to get in so that our half forwards and depth mid positions aren't wasting each week on guys going backwards with their football - ie. Tapscott, Bail, Blease.

I'm sorry but if you're drawing parallels from Michie and Magner, you clearly have little idea of the situation.

I'll just bundle you in with the ignorant group who keep quoting; ' He's only played one AFL game in three seasons.'

For those ignorant folk who don't know much about his situation, here's a little blurb, which will hopefully give some context for all you negative nellies.

Firstly, Michie's first opportunity to play with full fitness and a body that could handle the demands of playing football was this year, a year in which we saw Freo make a grand final. His first two seasons were injury plagued and so were spent trying to get his body right. Much like Grimes for us.

Effectively, this year and the 2013 pre-season was the first he had. He made one appearance against Geelong this year and I watched it. While he didn't dominate, one could see that he has some wonderful attributes and skills. Between an injury hiccup early on and then a knee injury toward the tail end of the season, Michie managed to play 16 games for Peel Thunder in the WAFL and he took out their Best and Fairest for the year. Forgive the guy for not being able to break into a grand finalists midfield for the year. If he'd pushed one of Hill, Mundy, Barlow or Fyfe out we'd be talking about the next young Judd. But we're not. Nobody is.

It's obvious to many, (but maybe not to you naysayers), that clubs with strong lines and lists and a strong footy department will have a strong development program for their kids. Especially kids that have to date, really struggled to get on the park. ie - Viv Michie

There are many players within the AFL and especially from strong clubs, that haven't been blooded early on and have had to spend considerable time in their VFL affiliate sides preparing themselves for a smooth transition into the AFL sot hey can become comfortable in their own ability, so that they can learn team ethos and structures, so that they can develop their body. There are many reasons. Unfortunately this is a luxury the MFC haven't been afforded due to the weak list it has had and the mismanagement of the club as a whole. Bailey's era of 'giving games to the kids' may have put some questioning into the minds of posters who are wondering why oh why Viv has managed one game. It's not common practice to gift kids games, I can assure you.

Nobody that I've come across is categorising Michie as being a future star or anything of the sort. However, what some of us can see, is that there are players out there on many AFL lists who are not getting games either because of injury or because they can't quite break into a side because they're young and still developing their game and the team are very strong across that particular line. Or! A mixture of both. This fits for Viv. Michie isn't like Greenwood where he is not getting games due to his lack of ability. Freo rate him alright.

I remember a young Steven Motlop playing inconsistent football for the Geelong two's a few years back.

I remember Josh Kennedy not being able to crack a game for the Hawks because of their star-studded midfield.

There are plenty of things to be excited about if we land this player. Especially now that we have Roos.

Agree, very happy to bring in Michie and have him fight for a spot with Cross, McKenzie, Toumpas and keep Bail, Nicho! Blease out of the team.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
