  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Respectfully, I disagree.

The system already overcompensates lower teams and under compensates higher teams because the picks are handed out after ladder position. The formula in theory works to establish the band, which is consistent across all teams, and then the team's ladder position modifies to be better or worse because it is tied to another pick.

If Daisy gets band 1, it's because he would have been on huge money at Collingwood and a huge offer from Carlton. I wonder if 'time spent injured' figures at all into their formula. Maybe they do have an 'injury prone' modifier or something that will reduce his value. But who knows? The AFL isn't known for its transparency.

RE what the players are paid, how does it take it into account when UFAs leave? Sylvia left to chase success, not money. Same with Rivers. Moloney left because he wanted out due to personality clash not because of money, in years pay he would have probably been traded.

None of those players would be getting the sane con wisher they would at Melbourne. But for a player like an Ablett or a Franklin, or a Daisy, who have had success they were moving for money.

Is it fair that FA compo only compensates teams who's players leave for money and not teams whose players leave for success?

Personally I think the formula should be a combo of what they are currently being paid, what they will be paid, and best and fairest takes for the past 2-4 years, weighted. I have no problem with age paying a small part, but it should only play a a part at the excrement ends ie a 26 year old leaving with 5 years left his more than a 31 year old leaving. 27 shouldn't get more than 28. Perhaps the cut off is 29 and over for age related impact.

Personally I think compo needs to stay. The pillars of the draft and salary cap and trading mean that clubs get assets (picks and players) and if they can lose them for nothing once they got a certain age they will be at a disadvantage.

Poor on field clubs will become feeders for top clubs and no more.

But back to Viv!

I was told emphatically that this trade would be announced... But it hasn't been...

Anyway he fits the category of emerging and potentially talented young midfielder struggling for opportunities at a top midfield side.

Exactly.

The system is flawed, but that's how it works apparently.

Maybe Hardtack's notion of the AFL bringing in other considerations does have merit. The problem there of course is that it's the AFL doing the considering. I guess it'd be fine if they were a well-run, consistent, transparent organisation. Clearly they are not.

What I think people need to remember is we are in a position where we just have to trust the new regime at the club. We have to back the judgement of Paul Roos and the people he is in charge of to make the best decisions possible on behalf of the club. Prior to PJ and then Roos coming on board we were in a world of trouble. Perhaps as bad as we have been since the merger situation. We have nothing left but to have faith in the people and the club NOW and hope they get it right. Of course this does not mean we can't have an opinion but geez, just roll with it!

How many Swans supporters would have thought the recruitment of Richards, Kennedy or Mattner was a good idea at the time? How many of them backed Roos in when he plucked Shaw from the Pies? Michie is a risk but one that I am willing to take, because Paul Roos is. Call it blind faith if you like, but what other option do we have?

He wouldn't bother leaving for a one year deal. Would need to be two minimum

Do you know him?

i don't know if he does but common sense says he's 21, played almost a whole WAFL season last year of great footy. Freo would offer him 2 years so we need to give at least that. 3 wouldn't be silly. Smarter than 4 for Vince

In addition to fork's post, we also have TV & JT involved in recruiting, and based on last year we picks 2 mature blokes who hasn't even played a single AFL game.

Those 2 came 3rd and 4th in the Bluey.

Imagine what we might be able to do with a kid who's played 1 game already...

I doubt that the WAFL would be as strong as the VFL. So playing 'great' football there, but failing to get a game with Freo, is much like Magner and other regular VFL standard players on our list. I'd take it with a grain of sand. I can't get excited about Michie. Hope I'm wrong!

Yes, it does.

And your contempt for making these moves shows you probably don't have the stomach to be involved in turning it around.

Moves like this are what it will take, unless you have a better solution.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
