Looking back at round 4, it is interesting to note that Clark played but contributed just 1 goal and there was no Dawes then either; our main contributors on the scoreboard were Howe (4), Evans (3), Byrnes (3), Gawn (2) and Pedersen (2). Evans this time is a non starter, but with Watts now playing forward and Fitz involved, they should make up for his 3 goals quite easily.

I'm not too concerned.

They need to get it first...or have it kicked to them...This isnt quite our forte this year ( decade )

Actually surprisingly Caro was one of 5 (out of 23 - not including the vilage idiott) who tipped Melbourne to win this week.

The ABSOLUTE kiss of death..

HAHA Tim Mohr?? You serious?

Massive spud. If Melbourne get it inside 50 with some sort of regularity (big 'if'), Watts will kick a bag

The only "bag" Watts could kick would be one hanging over the fence... Just saying..

True, but as I said in the intro comments, this is a small ground... so if the likes of Garland, McDonald, Terlich etc can run it out of defence, we stand a better chance of getting it into our forward 50, even with a substandard midfield setup. Or maybe I'm just being a little too optimistic.

This one is for all the Lynden Dunn bashers out there ........ http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-02/the-frugal-suspects

There are some intresting stats from the AFL website regarding the best AFL defenders.

On top of the one-on-one defenders chart is yours truely - Dunny!

Out of 32 one-on-one contests he has lost 3!

That was a bit of a surprise - I think he brings a bit to the table but like the rest of our team needs to lift.

Garland and Terlich also featured in some of the stats aswell but given the ball is always down there they are less impressive.

I like him when he's in the contest, particularly against smaller or tall but cumbersome opponents. My problem with him is when he's on the edge of a contest and can't get into it and also his disposal. All in all though Dunn is a very small part of a our problems at the moment, he's a back pocket. But he's also quite possibly not part of the solution. Where's the young bid bodied midfielder who could be learning AFL by taking Dunn's spot is my question.

Dunn's played most of his games on smaller forwards. I'm not that impressed that he's beating them in the air.

What's interesting to note, though, is that there are Melbourne players in most of those categories. Not surprising, given the number of inside 50s we concede. However, there's no Melbourne player in rebound 50s. Despite the huge amount of chances our defenders get to rebound, we don't have anyone who is stepping up and providing that run (Terlich's trying though).

I'm hoping Melbourne win well as I will be taking my 19 month old to his 1st game. His Melbourne jersey with number 4 on the back arrived last week. Looking forward to our family outing.

Go to Luna Park instead

You're correct, it's bigger than I thought at 160m... 5m shorter than the MCG and 7m longer than the SCG.

Seriously? Franklin's going to be more impressed with a win over Melbourne than by an offer of 2 million + per year? When you start talking that kind of money everything else is insignificant. If Buddy isn't interested in money, he'll sign with the Hawks. GWS's ability to beat us will have not a skerrick of influence.

Maybe if we beat them, he might consider playing for us.... Hmmm? Nup!

GO DEES!

Well, he was a Dees supporter as a kid, so we can only hope!!

Time will tell whether not winning a game will affect the GWS case for Buddy, IMO it will, they haven't won a game and I don't think Buddy will go there.

Can't imagine losing to us would help, dare say the damage is already done for them.

Buddy isn't Scully and won't just sell his soul for a dollar.

Pederson was indecisive and is unfit. But he had only been in for one week and deserves the sane chances as others to get confidence after a few games - it did wonders for fitzy. Also with the injury to Frawley I think stability is important, especially amongst the back 6.

Also re pederson, I won't defend his performance but he has a 3 year contract. There is no point nagging him out and labelling him a spud and sitting at casey for that time. We may as well see if we can utilise his strengths and make a player of him.

Good luck with that project deanox.

He might for $2 million, though.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
