Sylvia wants to stay

Featured Replies

Col Syliva was never gonna leave unless the Club wants him to, get over it, he loves the Club, Neeld was playing him and playing him in the midfield, he had no issues with him, this crap is really wearing thin, just be glad if he does stay

Come on Saty, admit you have a soft spot for Col. You bit my head off last time I put him down a few months ago (learnt that mistake lol)

Good boy Col.

Committing in public is actually the type of leadership we've been screaming out for and people have been screaming out for him to show.

This is far more important than the simple fact he wants to play at Melbourne - it is about the symbolism.

Come on pm in the words of John McEnroe you can't be serious. If Neeld was still at the club do you honestly believe that Syliva would have declared he wants to stay at the dees? My guess is that he would would have given the wait and see response.

And by the by for those who argued Neeld should be given until the end of year (and IIRC you were one of them PM) one only need to look at the improved spirit of the team and the fact that 26, 000 people went to the G on the weekend as proof of why it is was so important he go. If he was still at the helm they would have struggled to get 20, 000 there so in that game alone we have probably made $100k more than we would have.

I'm going to see the dees this weekend and i can tell you there is no way i would have even thought about if Neeld was still the coach such was the lack of spirit amongst players and fans.

I did believe Neeld should have been given until the end of the year, and who knows what might have changed after the mid-year review if he had remained in place. With that said, Craig has obviously been a refreshing change for the list.

The main point of my previous post was, some of these messages may finally be coming out regarding re-signings because the players have actually been in positions where the questions have been asked by the media directly. Watts at a post-game press conference, Sylvia at a press conference prior to his 150th. If Sylvia wasn't playing a milestone game, and Watts was never taken to the post-game presser it could easily be argued that neither player would have had any cause to comment about their contracts.

If Neeld was still at the club, from what Sylvia has said in the press conference, I would have to say that he would have still signed because he indicated his desire to be a one club player. Now that view doesn't just come out of the blue.

I believe the statements have come about because of the opportunity for the media to ask the question, and is totally unrelated to the Neeld sacking. Now, the attitude of the players may be more positive than it was, but that doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't have wanted to re-sign if Neeld was still around. Would they have been a little less certain in their decision, maybe. But we'll never actually know.

Do you know what is even better than players stating they want to stay, is players signing contracts to stay.

That is fantastic news. Always been a big fan of Col and always hoped he would stay. If him and Jack Watts stay put I will be one happy Dees supporter.

I don't care what people say about him, I really respect him. He recommitted a few years ago when we were rock bottom, and he intends to do so again. He has remained loyal to the club over his time, I really hope he can put a stella year together by the end of his career. I know I will be there the day he gets chaired off the ground after his final game.

Sylvia re-signing would be great. Clearly in our best 22 and would get a game at pretty much every team in the AFL IMO.

I know I am a cynic but I will believe CS and JW are staying when I read they have signed.

Talk is cheap, I will celebrate when signatures are on the dotted line.

Now don't get me wrong I would like both to stay.

I hope JW turns into a true champion of the MFC, time will tell.

Some time ago I gave up on CS being any more than a good player.

Besides midfield players we do need to keep good experience players like him, we have so few.

Go Dees

col is ranked 1st in our average dreamteam rankings and 3rd for supercoach

not that you would you believe it from reading this forum sometimes

Col who?

Colin's a decent player capable of the occasional burst of superb form. Would be glad to have him secured for the next few years, at a reasonable price, of course!

Nonplussed I must admit.

Would rather take the $300-450k he thinks he's worth and give it to a player like Daisy Thomas or Matt Stokes, or use it to help re-sign Chip.

Sylvia will stay at the Dees cos he'll earn more $$ here than anywhere else.

He needs to go a long way before he's repaid the faith invested in him.

Nonplussed I must admit.

amen

Went back and re read the article.

"He Hopes to stay"

I will remain reserved.

you mean theres hope yet ?:rolleyes:

As if Daisy would come for that much.

Sylvia needs better players around him, he is not going to be our number one player, get better players around him and he will rise.

Nonplussed I must admit.

FFS, at a point do we finally acknowledge a good player on our side?

Daisy Thomas and Matt Stokes? Put Sylvia in a team that dominates possession counts tklike the Cats/Pies have in recent years and he'd be spoken about in a very similar way.

nupp...bugger this Stuff this notion that Sylvia NEEDS others to make him shine.. Im over this. He is a very capable player if and when he can pull his digit out. He himself even alludes to such. HE KNOWS BLOODY WELL

He ought to be one of those players whoare helping others to realise their abilities not the other way around. Hes a bloody 10 year player and weve seen very littel over the journey for all the faith , let alone millions. Yes folks..add it all up and hes had millions off of this club. Value ?? No where near it

Yes I know they all get paid but hes been paid hansomely.

If he wants to stay...whoop'd de do. By all means Col, but this is your last hurrah, time to pay the ferryman son

Junior macs going to have a fit.

Yep

Just waiting for him to get a good pre-season. He'll tear it up next year for sure......

Gee he might even get in the top 10 in the B&F...

That's fine, but as I've indicated I beg to differ.

Sylvia doesn't work anything like as hard as those two fellow free agent examples.

They work both ways, something Sylvia does sometimes.

They lower their eyes when disposing of the ball, something Sylvia does all too rarely.

They're both also younger and have far more upside to their future careers.

Jordan Lewis is what we should have got from Sylvia. Instead his career is on a par with Brennan, someone who is capable of the magical but all too infrequently. Just like Col.

When Stokes misbehaved he worked hard to sort himself out off field. Col has been a recidivist.

not sure whether youre tongue in cheek or not :)

Col - I am sure that most here would be very happy for you to stay, and even happier were you to put together runs of good games rather than just flashing in the pan.

You can do it, but will you??

A family member spoke to him last year and his bags were packed, no one saw a future at this club. It's good that there seems to be some hope again at this club.

Those two drop kicks on AFL 360 just said they think he's gone, I can't figure those two out.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
