Colin Garland Interview

Just watched Colin's Press Conference this morning. Really impressed with Colin. He has certainly developed in leaps and bounds, both on and off the field, as Neil Craig has also been quick to point out.

Really handled himself extremely well in front of the media, and answered some potentially awkward questions very well.

Good on you, Col.

i want him to get more involed in games, is fast and a long kick, wish he would take the game on more often

IS it just me?

I get the feeling that Colin and Dawes are the only ones at the MFC capable of conducting a discussion with the media.

Seems like i hear more from Colin than the Dual captains and Vic captain put together.

All of Grimes, Dawes and Garland are excellent when it comes to fronting the media. Jonea and Trenners hold their own, but the other three should take on media duties when possible.

I cannot say I hang on every word from the players but I cannot remember the last time i heard Jones , Trengove or Grimes.

Or am I just more aware of Garland because he doea a good job

Did it strike anyone as just slightly odd that by Friday, there had been no discussion about match ups? Col said he hadn't even discussed that with Rawlings as yet. Assuming that's true of course.

I just contrast that with Harry O who keeps a diary on his opponents and puts solid research into who he is coming up against that week.

Garlo = Legend!

Matt Jones is awesome in front of the media too

If you think a "rabbit in the spotlight" is awesome

Colin Garland is a gun

Would have to be a chance for the Bluey at the moment

You'd hope that was a lie and that both Garland and McDonald had done serious preparation on Riewoldt and had their plans worked out for Saturday.

I did notice Neeld say McDonald would get Cloke and then Garland went to him, I don't mind that kind of misdirection.

Trengove was on footy show last week as was Jones on Before the Game. Grimes was on SEN last week and spoke really well.

Harsh but true... Poor bugger. He looked as comfortable as someone with a strangers finger up their nose.

Very important thread, recruit media savvy, articulate players...

His interviews on the club website aren't much better. He doesn't need to be doing that stuff anyway. He's one of the few who is letting his football do the talking.

What was with the footage of col standing out of the huddle on his own then players patted him on the head like they were consoling him.

That was about the time they told Col he'd be facing the media gauntlet.

I actually thought it was when they broke the news to him that Dunn would be playing again this week.

i think some are not quite getting the point that OD is making...as I undersrtand it ( so is just my take in other words)

Mitch and Garland speak with a little more , how shall we say.. authority , in so much as they have been there and done more. Dont get me wrong Jack and Jack ( sound likes a clothing store for yuppified nuevo rich kids at Chaddy ) are good but in any other universe the older ones Mitch and Col would be the captain-esque ones. For mine this is another indication of how arse about we have done things at the good ol' MFC !!

Wish I had put it that way bb.

That is what I was getting at.

So I should get out more bsd ?

It better to not let them anywhere the Media.

As they need to focus more on actual leading the tram!

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
