The only reason we weren't found guilty if tanking is simply the repercussions of all the betting agencies.

That is only one of the reasons.

Another one is that they would have then had to investigate all the other clubs.

Still another reason is that we would have taken them to Court and won. Remember they had no actual evidence as admitted by their own QC.

Yet another reason is that Demetriou would have looked foolish for denying it for years.

There are many more reasons, but that will do for making my point.

If we ever get up the top of the ladder, other supporters will be ribbing us about how the AFL had to bail us out. That's the only thing I don't like about this, but we really need it sadly.

Have a drink with me , my shout, when we are next in a GF. I guarantee you , that you won' t give a stuff about other supporters. They don't about us.

I only say that as it would ensure we went and traded for a player rather than trading Pick 1 for Pick 3 and Pick 65.

Fair enough. But what if you were offered a player and pick 5, for example, for pick 1 in the mini draft.

I look forward to the comments and hate Redleg.

When the Dees captain holds the cup aloft my delight will block out any crap from those who pity us now.

All I want from other supporters is their hatred of our success.

Gold Coast are currently being bankrolled to a flag. They will win one in the next two-three years. Swans were on AFL life support in the 90's and they are now an elite team which doesn't bottom out. Remember MFC gave up the MCG to the competition at the end of our long reign of glory.

Correct. All in the competition based on a game which we started.

As others have posted, it is our turn for help. Plenty of others have got it to our detriment previously.

The Pies play at the G and make millions while we as the original home tenant have less home games there, get the worst timeslots and have to travel more. Is that fair? Which supporters from other clubs feel sorry for that?

So, how is all the dental treatment going? we need a full report. reading about other people's pain is very therapeutic (for us that is)

Heard David Matthews taslk about how the GWS focus is now on recruiting experienced players to complement their young talent. Our talent is not on their level however our need for experience is as strong.

...

I like to think we have some advantage in the chase here as we should have substantially more salary cap room in the future. Plus we have the advantage of having listed players like Dawes, Clarke, Hogan, Frawley, Garland, Jones, which they don't have. Add some experience to us and we have other experience and mid tier players to support, GWS will be completely reliant on the young kids.

Whichever way it goes so be it. We are entitled to help just as much as other clubs get better draws, in a rigged fixture, which the AFL openly admits.

It doesn't hide the fact that having had more advantages (draft picks and $5m + from FH) than a lot of other clubs (North, Dogs, Saints, PA) that we have been humiliated by our own failings which is why we don't get good draws and sponsorship.

It's our fault that we are where we are and we were given every opportunity to be somewhere much much better.

Entitled to help? I don't think so. Will receive it because of the embarrassment we are to the AFL? Yes. If we receive draft help in whatever manner it will be because we are failures and there is no entitlement, pride, joy or solace in that.

Redleg the draw is "rigged" to maximize profits to the AFL and thank heavens for that. If it wasn't we'd be on life support with little likelihood of recovery. Hopefully one day we can add to the AFL's reputation rather than tarnishing it.

I have no problem taking $$$ from the AFL at all.

A PP i am not keen on. But with Taylor now in charge of recruiting can he come up with a gun?

We need ready made players. Think North Melbourne post 1972.

The AFL (and me!!) cannot cop another 5 years of rebuild. .

The rise up the ladder must start next year & in that way we pay our way and pay off the "loan"

I will be very pi$$ed off if we have to pay out a bogus contract to CC who will not be part of the restructure. It is impossible.

Let Schwab pay him out.

i have a feeling we will be given a mid first round PP (pick 10?) which we will have to use in a trade

then we can auction it off to the highest bidder

I'll be completely deaf to it because I'll be drunkly laughing and crying all at once very loudly!!!

yes - and do we suppose the AFL will have thought about a Plan B of how they react if we stuff up this hand-out?

A rational and business-minded Plan B, in which they strengthen the league by means of accepting that we simply are not a viable club? That must come into their thinking eventually.

so what you are saying is tou wish the club to fail & fold?

I don't think we will at all. We just have to become more agressive in the business market & stop giving jobs to mates.

Rather Head Hunt the best regardless of who they barrack for.

REMEMBER THAT NORM SMITH WAS A FILTH SUPPORTER BEFORE HE WAS RECRUITED TO MELBOURNE....

by the time we see any success, regardless of whether we get assistance.... All this begging is going to be long forgotten, by us and other club supporters....

WJ I think I may have been one of the first to float the idea of a mini draft and I see a number of benefits over the traditional priority pick:

-the AFL doesn't have to award a priority pick, which may seem like semantics but may be an important point

-we can't use it to stock pile as trades must occur, enabling us to bring in players who will impact straight away

-the AFL can easily make the mini draft as big or as small as it wants to cater for they think we require

I think the mini draft is one of the best ways to get established talent to our club, although that being said GWS did not attract any senior players using their mini draft. Whether this was circumstance or design it is not clear but pretty sure Sheedy has stated that clubs didn't want to trade established players.

they could state they have to be traded for players not picks , but then clubs could offer a player like say morton ( pick 88 ) and then pick 3 , so there would have to be rules on how they used and what picks and players combo , I would think something on the likes of they must be traded and the trade cannot have anything above a 2 nd round and a player ?

I dont see us as not having as much trouble as GWS or GC convincing players to come to us, I am sure there are some that will come .

Sounds like a plan, I'm sure I probably won't care by then!

I hope there aren't official rules because it will make it too easy for other clubs to exploit..if they know it must be a player they will offer rubbish players. If it can technically anything it gives us more negotiatng room.

If we could trade for a top 10 pick we may be able to trade two first round picks for a good player?

I understand , but you need to have something as we really dont need anymore 17year old kids , we really need some ready made players

I guess they need to find some middle ground but what ? we need to be more competitive now and not later ,

well thats the way i see it

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
