  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good Call.. Bad Call..

We're at the half way point of the home and away season.. And I think it might be fun to share some calls we made at the start of the season. GOOD or BAD.. (Doesn't have to be Melbourne related)

I'll get the ball rolling..

GOOD CALLS:

- Adelaide will struggle to make the top 8.

BAD CALLS:

- Melbourne will win at least 10 games for the season.

- Jack Watts will be our MOST improved player this year.

- West Coast will finish top 2 on the ladder.

GOOD CALLS:

- The Saints are on their way down.

- Recruiting David Rodan is idiotic.

- From Sam Newman - Melbourne will finish on the bottom of the ladder (AFL footy show), I am still shocked he was the one to predict/ get that right.

BAD CALLS:

- Melbourne will win at least 10 games for the season. As stated above, I was also saying something similar.

- Jimmy Toumpas over Ollie Wines.

DIFFERENT CALL:

- Jack Trengove will have a break out year, although my view to this changed when he had his pre-season interrupted.

Toumpas over Wines is too early to tell. Seriously, both kids are only in their first year, which hardly tells you what the finished product for them will be. Toumpas was more highly rated than Wines by most in the lead up to the draft, though Wines was clearly the more ready to play straight away. Have some patience.

Good Calls

- Tom Gillies was shocked why we would want him. Made me wonder if anyone had ever seen him play.

- Gysberts won't have any effect at the Roos

- Morton won't get a game with the Eagles

- Freo will be genuine contenders

Bad Calls

- Dees to win about 10

- Dees to seriously push some top teams

- Eagles to play off against Freo/Sydney for the flag

- All doubters of Watts will finally shut up.

- Mark Neeld is our savior

Yeah true I agree with you, it is too early. But I must say I was scratching my head after the first 5 rounds :)

I like this one, I was in the same boat. You would cringe to see the email I sent him at the end of last year :)

Good calls:

- Geelong would stay up the top and continue to be a powerhouse

- rodan Byrnes and gillies would give us nothing.

- moloney will play a big role at Brisbane

- PA would start the season on fire and win at least 3 of their first 4.

- Adrlaide would struggle to make the 8

Bad calls:

- The only teams we would have wins against for the whole season would be GCS & GWS (would have been a great call had I realised we are worst than i thought and the suns have improved rapidly)

- Essendon would not make the top 8

- West Coast would finish top of the ladder and win the flag.

Hmm

MIXED CALLS -

There would be a large group of clubs with between 6-9 wins and a large group with a lot of wins. Kind of let down by St Kilda and the Dogs falling even further than anticipated, and by Melbourne, but overall the 'two layers' theory about the season stands true. Especially when you note that West Coast and Adeliade are yet to beat any opponents worth mentioning.

Port Adelaide will continue to fail... hmm...

BAD CALL -

Melbourne would be lurking at the bottom of the 'competitive' group, but respectable.

GOOD CALL

Richmond will finish 9th. Made all the more hilarious because they haven't beeen more than one or two spots away from ninth for the whole season!

NEW CALL -

Melbourne will show something more worhty in the second half of the season, starting with snagging a win against one of the Dogs or Saints that will take some pressure off and start the juices flowing.

Good Calls

Umm, err, ................ do I have to be honest?

Bad Calls

Innumerable, but my greatest clangers have been:

  • Sam Blease will have a breakout year.
  • Nev Jetta will cement a place in the back pocket.
  • The Dees will win 3 or 4 games in first half of the season, and come home with a wet sail to possibly scrape into the final eight.
  • I'm optimistic about our future from 2014, and beyond.
  • Ben 'what's-his-name' is one of my favourite Demonland posters, based on his informative pre-season training reports and analysis. He's now looking more like a wooden spooner (sorry Ben, but your more recent form has been on a par with that of the Dees!).

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
