Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

One wonders why they bothered dropping Strauss considering they've brought him back after just 1 week and Freo had a plethora of small blokes kicking loads of goals last week.

Yeah, it was a strange one. He didn't play at Casey either to force his way back in.

Tough game to come back in. Would like to see Kent get full game time and not sub.

Rodan for sub, give Kent a full game for the supporters sake alone.

For those supporters who still watch the great Mark Neeld ply his trade.

With Tapscott, Bail, Davey and Joel Macdonald (playing forward according to all reports) all in the team I get the feeling we need a midfielder which will see Rodan play with Kent the sub. It would be a strange choice to give Bail a third consecutive sub. Similarly Davey is now up and about. Tapscott could be a genuine option as sub.

Oh and the players efforts have been just as dismal as the coaching so I hope they can deliver something respectable.

As for Hawthorn's forward line I think plan A will be:

Franklin - Frawley

Roughead - Dunn

Grimley/Hale - Pedersen

Breust - Garland

Puopolo - Strauss

Hill - Terlich

Plan B:

Franklin - Garland

Roughead - Frawley

Grimley/Hale - Pedersen

Breust - Terlich

Puopolo - Dunn

Hill - Strauss

I think they'll start with Frawley on Franklin. The big question is who is a better (or capable) defender out of Dunn or Pedersen and can any of them stop Roughy who's been in good form this year now he's playing more forward until the late in game. It will be a big test for these two under performers. Grimley played very well against Casey and plays with a spark and they've left Bailey out to give him a second week. Just like Hale he's no slouch up forward. Then Breust has claims to Hawthorn's second most dangerous forward, he's a super talent and probably the best crumber in the league in terms of positioning himself at the drop of the ball or sneaking out of packs.

Up our end:

Fitzpatrick - Lake - Good luck big fella use your speed

Dawes - Gibson - Again this is a struggle

Howe/Watts - Stratton

Macdonald - Birchall - defensive role try to limit his touches of the footy

Tapscott - Cheney - possibly the one Hawthorn defender who can really be beaten but Tapscott doesn't look up to it

Davey - Guerra - again good luck flash, get on your bike and work both ways

Bail - Mitchell - defensive role, try and stop him having 40 touches

Pretty good summation 'master', wouldn't be surprised to see Puopolo pick up Terlich playing his defensive role on just about our only run and carry player out of the back half.

As for Nev Jetta, I think it is time we faced facts that the kid just isn't any good. I desperately want him to be, because he is tenacious and aggressive and willing, but he doesn't get involved enough and doesn't hurt enough when he does.

I agree Nasher. For me the jury has been out for a couple of years on Nev, but I think we now have a verdict.

Considering he kept Nahas to 7 touches the week before Freo, I'd say it was a bad move to drop him against Freo.

But, Neeld knows his stuff, he'd have his reasons.

For that particular week playing Strauss would have created a team with a superfluity of S's no doubt.

When will Tappy have a breakout game ? I want this kid to succeed.

He has the attributes and has played alot this year.

to be honest I dont think much of him, he aint quick or clever but rather slowish and not that effective. yes he has guns and can hurt an opponent, has he really shown much?

Nothing wrong with having one of those blokes in your side. He's a good long kick but lost all confidence last week against Freo and got the fumbles really bad.

A chance for redemption before getting dropped.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
