The team has the nucleus - about 12 players - that potentially gives us a strong future.

Asked if Neeld should go G Lyon said not necessarily but he could understand why people would want it done.

I'd have preferred MN get the chance to coach against some of the other strugglers with Clarke and Dawes on board. Looks like that won't happen.

It is frustrating being a MFC supporter and seeing the floggings it is contantly getting with no real solutions being offered other then wait and see the players get more experience. Well losing is like a virus, it hard to get rid of once it become established.

Who set the MFC up with a totally inexperienced players list with very few senior players to teach and mentor the younger/inexperienced players?

What is needed at the MFC is a Coach that most supports can respect and show their support to, is that really too much to ask for?

The talk on Jackson was that his interim CEO role would extend beyond the six months. And that a prospect that was canvassed on DLand for some weeks.

Firstly, don't EVER, EVER believe a single thing that comes out of Lyon's mouth. I can't wait for the day that it comes out how he crippled this club financially back at the end of the 90s by being given a contract despite both he and the club knowing he'll never play again. Schwab, Stynes, Lyon, the "boys club" that have actually crippled this club.

Secondly, Jackson staying on as CEO is a given. At this stage it was always just a "go in and check it out" mentality as you can't expect a CEO to just magically fit into the role without having a pre-season to understand the functions of the club. It would be like a CEO joining a company at the end of a financial year, or a day before an AGM.

Thirdly, there is no possible way Neeld survives beyond the bye. What I am worried about, however, is that 10-12 goal losses against the Pies and Hawks will be seen as "improvement", as the Blues, Tigers matches were.

Once again it appears as though the club is relying on loses to determine its future.

What a rabble.

My genuine concern is that it won't be 10-12 goals this weekend, it will be 25+. It surely seems clear the message is not going through to the players, neither on a motivational level nor on a tactical level. Whilst a loss like this will surely see the end of Neeld, do we really need to do more damage to our players and supporters by putting them through that?

If Neeld must coach this weekend, he has to be told to change his approach. We can't be expected to turn up to watch the slaughter that will occur if our players are told to 'guard space' against an efficient kicking team.

It really doesn't have to be like this. It is garbage. With proper instruction and motivation our list is capable of competitive performances. I know the club is in a hard spot on this one, and I can understand with the recent admin changes that they want to be seen to act reasonably and give the coach a chance to show improvement, but if a decision has been made on this bloke (and given the opposition we are facing in the coming weeks) perhaps for everyone's sake we should just make the change now.

We can get better, it is not the 5 years of wilderness that most took Neeld to mean - we can rebound quickly into mid table mediocrity but it will not happen under a caretaker and it will not happen this season.

We are in for more pain and hopefully this Spring/Summer brings us an established coach, some key re-signings, some key signings, and some instilled confidence.

Absolutely agree. Key signings are the key, we may have to give up a bit to get a bit, lets say Watts & someone for a high pick (just an example). I still believe we are only 3-4 good midfielders away from competitiveness.

An established coach will be a tricky one wont it. I cant see Clarkson leaving Hawks or Worsfold leaving WCE. Our best chances would be Williams, Ratten, Ayers, Laidley... the last two slim pickings. Cant really think of anyone else that would be "willing" to coach us.

Melbourne have scored 100 points or more in 6 of their last 36 matches, 3 of those were in Vineys 5 game stint as caretaker, I don't think it would be as bad as you think.

Because you gift 72 games to a spud like Cale Morton and all of a sudden he becomes Superman when he ticks over the 100 game mark.

FMD I used to scream at that and the "post of the century" on the 'other' supporter site. Its insane to think that games into players by itself is what separates a good team from a bad team.

Love the bit about going after who "we want". Reckon it's great, and I'd like to think PJ would have his list (if this is the avenue he goes down).

On the other hand, I don't agree with your last sentence. The open opinion of Dawes' is very interesting, and I think it's quite easy to read between the lines. He has come from a recent premiership winning club, so he knows what it takes to have a winning culture. If what he is seeing from certain players is not what he has experienced with successful teams, then I'm all for those players pi$$ing off. If he believes what Neeld is putting in place is what should be expected from professional units, then attracting a FA may not be as difficult as we would first think. It's a matter of selling them what the Melbourne of "old" was like, and what the Melbourne of "new" will look like, it could ease the concerns that some of the FAs may have about coming to us.

His illness and retraction from the every day workings of the club were the reasons we started going down hill.
