Ron Gauci... get him

With the storm being sold today and the management restructure that has followed, Ron Gauci has been flicked as CEO in favour of one of the new owners merry men.

I reckon he would be a really good appointment if Peter Jackson does not continue after his 6 month contract. He went to the storm post the kaka hitting the fan and from what I see the club is running like a well oiled machine.

This is a question more than a comment; Are the AFL and its clubs more proffesional than NRL clubs, and therefore does being a CEO of an AFL club come with different issues than you would encounter than being a CEO at a NRL club?

Without knowing the Melbourne Storm, i would have thought taking on the reigns of the MFC is a much greater challenge. Even during their offield sagas the Storm have always been a good team?

Ron Gauci was appointed Chief Executive Office for the Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club in the NRL at the end of July 2010 three months after the salary scandal engulfed the club. Gauci has held senior management and executive positions in some of the world’s largest multinational and domestic organisations including Microsoft, Telstra, IBM, and most recently Verizon Business as Vice President Aust/NZ.

Gauci is also a former Director on the Board of the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), a former member of the International CEO Forum and held a position on the Board of Governors for the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM).

Gauci has spent the past two decades as a “fix it” businessman taking on some of the most difficult challenges. Yeah the Storm are a great team and that's a lesser issue but I think this bloke could definitely bring his skills and help us along if PJ doesn't stick around.

Steaming, I noticed that your favorite player was Ricky Jackson and I remembered playing against him in juniors so many years ago. Great talent who would have thrived in todays footy IMO. I know it's irrelevant to the thread but hey

It would be interesting if he fits in. Some of the elite around the club might look down on him for being the CEO of a club in plebian football code.

I think the elite of the club haven't helped us much of late. Gauci may well fit the bill particularly in terms of his pulling power.

If he ends up at another AFL club I will be so disappointed. We need to do everything we can to grab a CEO of his calibre even if Jackson is around for the next 6 months as a "consultant to the board".

It will be interesting to see when Peter Jackson starts ringing in the administrative changes. I'm sure he is still occupied with information gathering at the moment but I'm guessing these changes will be not too far away!

I'm not sure that we should assume running an AFL club is any harder than an NRL club. Different code and some different issues, but many things will be the same. The football component of both jobs will be offset by many similar responsibilities on the commercial and compliance side.

We have no idea of his desires for the future so lets see what happens.
