For those commenting on Roo's and boring football.

I dream of going to the football and seeing our club playing and being "bored". Sure beats the hell out of the current alternative.

The players must take some responsibility for manning up, punching from behind, blocking, tackling, kicking straight, kicking to a moving target, shepherding.

Geelong have got oodles of it, but they've also got a leader on every line.

Let's get more games in the three Jacks, JV, M Jones, Terlich, Dawes, Gawn, Evans, Strauss, Sellar, Howe, etc and allow the landscape to unfold then.

Jumbo, the development of the players is at the heart of the matter here. If their actions on the field are a by product of how they train and are 'taught' by Neeld then we have a problem.

Best to move him on now before the group you've outlined above are also affected.

Roos said "off the radar" which reads as ettiquette as MN is still in position. (well that's what I'm runnin' with!)

It's not really about being boring, it's about being outdated.

Whether you like the man or not - you cant really dispute his intelligence. He hasnt coached for a couple of years. I would suggest he is intelligent enough to alter his style and gameplan to what suits a list needs.

Your suggesting he will come in do the same same as he did in Sydney - Whilst he would focus on defensive structures as all coaches do I think he would have evolved.

Bottom line is neither of us know..

Spot on Nutbean. Of course he'd adapt. He is a winner and he used a game plan at the Swans that maximized his teams chances of winning a flag. If he coached now and that game plan was not going to win a flag he'd adapt it (whislt imagine still keeping the emphasis on hard nosed defense and non negotiables such as accountability). No one is accusing Freo of being overly dour this year as Lyon has apated his game plan from the flooding model he used at the Saints

We didn't get bagged as per normal .... Interesting.

But I do guess there not much point in bagging us now its beyond a story. I also remember hirdy saying No No No I will not coach essendon. So who knows hey

There is a realistic chance that Roos will coach Melbourne next season. I am aware of "sounding out" discussions with our club (directly from board member).

It means absolutely nothing that Roos denies or semi denies. Roos and the MFC must deny such contact as Melbourne currently has a coach in contract until the end of 2014. All parties simply have no choice but to deny.

This situation reminds me of Malthouse and Carlton last season. Malthouse denied interest and denied contact and discussions with Carlton, but never absolutely closed the door on the possibility. Just like Roos has done. It is now common knowledge in the football community that Malthouse agreed to terms with Carlton around mid-season while Ratten was still coach. All at Melbourne have their fingers crossed that one way or anther Roos takes up the challenge and saves our club.

well i for one hope you are right.

Roos got the Swans their first for 72 years and was a Bees member away from back to back in 2006. I was at 2006, anyone who thinks it was a boring contest was not in the crowd.

Every single contest was fierce.

The EXACT OPPOSITE to what the MFC are now.

I know which style i would prefer.

Indeed WYL....some sort of hard contested tight stoppage type football sure beats the hell out of 5 goals in 10min and watching players walk around wishing they were somewhere else, besides Im running out of needles to stick in my eyes.

People forget under Northey we often kicked low scores & hung on to win close.

It was stressful to watch but it was a huge buzz when that siren blew.

Northey was not a boring coach, he led a tough battle.

You really mix in the right circles... player managers, board members... I'm sure they're going to give you all of the inside information.

And what does it matter that Neeld is still contracted? It certainly never stopped Freemantle when both Lyon and Harvey still had one year left on their respective contracts.

GLyon spoke to RLyons manager and not RLyon himself

The point no-one considers in all this speculation is that R Lyon knew the Melbourne gig was in the offing and yet he chose to speak on the quiet to Freo, keeping even his manager out of the loop.

G Lyon thought he sussed it out but R Lyon was on a mission of his own, his management notwithstanding. From this it is fair to conclude he had no interest in us, and figured the Freo list was a better option, so let's stop the hyperventilating over would he wouldn't he have joined us.

Tricky, you don't not need to brush up on your double negatives.

be careful what you wish for

pearls before swine, apparently a list had been made of sackings to come... apparently that list was given to the players....

we all know about the Saints Culture issues of generations past,,, then RLyon happened along,, but then Lyon left. why didn't he continue with this great club?

... so blight was readying to cleanup the culture mess, & they shafted him first, out of ignorance???

Spot on.

There was an article in The West (unable to find link) where Lyon stated he wanted out of Victoria.

Ed: it was on this admission from Lyon that Freo went for him.

Who do you think selected the bulk of those kids with strong characters when they were U-19's, & why do you think

they performed like that 4 to 5 yrs later, under Swooper?

when you say its common knowledge in football community. are you calling cfc, steve kernahan. mick malthouse and greg swann liers or is the football community calling them liers?

and are you know calling paul roos a lier. and if so why appoint him if he is??

If he is a lier, then he only reclining. If he's a liar, then that is a different thing altogether. That said and has already been mentioned, while Neeld is still in the chair or any other incumbent in 2013 for that matter, both the AFL and Paul Roos cannot say, yes, Roos is up for the job.

In any event, I believe the chances of Roos coaching in 2014 are extremely thin.

Add the golden boy and his assistant to the mix, not all is as it seems in AFL land.

Yes, I am calling them all liars......... if that's what you want to call it.

Call it a professional lie, call it a required lie, call it a necessary lie, call it a legal lie, call it what you want, this is what happens. When a coach is in contract a club simply cannot be seen to be luring another coach. Surely you can see why this is.

The other thing people forget is that the Freo Steves (Harris & Rosich) had already pretty much stiched up Lyon for 2013. I'd assume these were talks held without Lyon's management's knowledge as well. There's an interview with one of the Steves where this is mentioned but franky I don't care enough to be arsed looking for it. It was the end of 2011 when they were so dissatisfied with Havey that they decided to try to reel in Lyon a year early.

As I said above... tell that to Freemantle.

Agreed Hardtack, but the two scenarios in question are somewhat different. For a start, Fremantle were not a basket case of the time. Similar to when John Northey left Richmond and took the Brisbane job.

Remember listening to a close one on the radio driving back from somewhere in the bush:

Tim Lane: "Somehow, this mob just find a way to win"

What I'd give for that to be said about us now -

It seems that "governance" isn't just the bull$hit bingo word that some on here thought it was.

The performance of the Club under this board is truly dreadful.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
