Neeld took a fairly high risk approach on the way he treated our incumbent senior leaders upon taking the reigns. I expect it was calculated.

It seems to me that this approach was a pretty big miscalculation in the circumstances. Probably made sense on paper - made no sense in reality.

It never made any sense Ron.

Scully left for 6 large. Don't kid yourself there were other reasons. McLean left because he was injury prone and slow. Revisionist by him to blame tanking, And stupid if that was his reason to go to Carlton.

And hasn't Scully torn it up at GWS??

I mean really. Who has left and gone on to great things other than Scott Thompson??

Darren Jolly has 2 flags to his name and it was between him and Jamar who would take over from Jeff White

Five rounds after leaving... awarded Best on Ground against former team & coach... You are right, actions speak louder than words

Couldn't agree more... shame he couldn't have shown more leadership quality at the Dees and, despite being dropped from the leadership group and the vice captaincy, made an effort to prove the coach wrong instead of sulking and, to use his own words, dropping his bundle.

Armstrong has a flag to his name as well with West Coast... can't say it was largely due to his contribution though.

Beamers comments seemed to reflect in the way the 2013 Demons play.

But was..... Beamer has said he did not think Neeld believed in him.

Wonder how many current MFC players are feeling that way?

I think I remember you calling Beamer a flat track bully on a few occasion from the past? & lacking in leadership?

letting Beamer go? .... after last years tantrums? a wise decision in hindsight.

Yeah,he's helped the lions alright.... & he's gonna help Voss right out of a job as well... Voss's decisions in his recruiting are real headscratching material...

I am not sure there is any argument that Beamer (and Rivers) would be in a our first 18 now. However, the decisions weren't made for season 2013. Neeld's trying to rebuild a mess and it involves some cleaning out.

I don't know what sort of presence Beamer had, but it's the environment at Melbourne that is more toxic than the list.

I think you may mean the environment over long period of time, has been has been detrimental to developing young players into elite players.

Averaging 25 touches and over 5 tackles... Yeah we don't need that in our stellar midfield

Who's to say he'd be getting that in our midfield ?

It's what the 25 touches create, that is his problem, I prefer the way we are going, if Moloney leaving gave us Matt Jones, great

Who's to say he'd be getting that in our midfield ?

That's kind of my point though. Sick of everyone saying "he was useless, glad he's gone", when clearly he can be a decent player, and could have been for us.

Fair call. Jolly was given about 8min gametime a week under ND. No wonder he was pizzed off and then pizzed off.

HAHAHAHAHAH

hilarious!

Beamer is having a better year than any of our midfielders IMO, including both Jones'

To me it went both ways. Neeld clearly mismanaged Beamer, but likewise Beamer didn't have to "drop his bundle". He could've put aside the differences for the good of his team and the club. He chose not to.

Bishop went alright at Port (and won a flag) but he was a spare parts player. We have a lot of spare parts players at the moment, but no stars to lead them in the right direction.

He was wanting to go before Neeld got to the club, it's a convenient excuse now.

Neeld didnt think Moloney was a leader.

Moloney shoved it right up him.

....which in turn proved that he wasn't really a leader. A leader would have "shoved it right up him" as you put it by positive actions on the field, not by sulking like he did. Leader....pffftt.

Not to mention he was largely the problem... he was upset over his treatment and got a major case of the sulks that impacted the whole side. He doesn't need to sulk at the moment, so he shows what he is capable of... that actually makes me more glad that he has gone; let's see what happens at the Lions the moment Voss calls him out for some indiscretion.

The ol' what came first debta - chicken or the egg

This club is bigger then these two blokes (Neeld and Moloney)

Both can get f'ked for screwing this club over

I think there's a very good chance that Moloney liked his role under Bailey and wished it could have continued. When it didn't under Neeld, he felt overly-disenfranchised. Where Neeld failed was in being able to connect with Moloney and get the best out of him.

Moloney lost me when he turned up on 186 day knowing he wasn't up to it and let the whole club down badly - maybe justifying it by thinking he didn't want to let down his mates, but he actually did, big time. A very selfish, not a selfless, act.

The post Bailey sulks was the icing on the cake. Presumably Bailey let him do whatever he liked and Neeld, rightly or wrongly, for better or worse, wanted him to follow team rules and protocols which he didn't seem to like doing. QED

Neeld wanted Moloney to play a defensive game as well which didnt seem to work. Moloney coasted through under Bailey and Neeld tried to push him harder.

Look I loved Moloney but he didnt believe in the coach either so whats a coach to do when a player doesnt believe in him.

I reckon these shows get ex players on because they know they will get a headline out of it.

Yeah its a free world so if he wants to speak out then let him however maybe he could look at the class of some past players that have been moved on and not bagged the club.

The person who had every right to whinge and bag the club after wrongly getting the boot was James McDonald. But he handled it well and didnt have a go at Bailey or anyone.

Both parties should move on.

He was wanting to go before Neeld got to the club, it's a convenient excuse now.

And your evidence is?

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
