Jack Watts Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey Stuie were you there actually watching Jack if you were then you obviously are seriously deluded or have bad eyesight Jack watts was very poor even in the last quarter when we finished so strongly Jack did very little

I wasn't at the game but have watched it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he was good, but the way some posters start to salivate when he's struggling he's pathetic.

I've said it elsewhere too, but I didn't mind his attack today. He started off on the right foot going for a nice bump at the start of the game, he fought pretty hard for some ground balls. I think he's getting that bit ok.

He was as timid as a scared cat.

He actively avoided contact near the ball and sought not to make physical contests.

Stuie, I think sometimes Tv doesn't allow you to look at all efforts across the ground. Whatever the case, i was there today and it was actually quite sad. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think he will be even a serviceable player for us. He plays like he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders. And he probably has.

I wonder whether he could play off a wing.

Fair enough, that's the disadvantage of watching on TV, you don't see a lot of the behind the play, but still think most here are overreacting. Was he bad? Sure, no argument there, but he clearly was nowhere near as bad as some of the headless chooks here are trying to make out.

He was very poor today. In fairness to him, when he is poor no one misses him. If, say, a Tapscott is poor its no biggy as he doesn't stand out.

Stuie, I can't help thinking he's being played out of position. He's not an in and under player. He's a great kick who we play too deep in defense.

The other thing I noticed is that he tries to get everything just right when kicking out of defense and sometimes it's a game of get it out of there quickly.

That's my point. Think we need to forget he was a number 1 pick, that pick is spent, no getting it back now, just consider him another young player learning the game.

I still think he will be an important player for us, as he rarely wastes a disposal.

Just needs to get his angry face on.

Has to be a bit more desperate in his chasing and tackling.

Definitely not an in and under type. No idea where he should be being played, but definitely not fair for it to be make or break in the backline for him. He has speed, not so sure on endurance, but maybe if he built up his tank he could be a kind of positionless roaming winger like a James Hird? I had hopes Gysberts would be that type, but he never got his endurance happening.

You obvioiusly were not at the game Sir He was in one word Pathetic

Jacks had his time.. No more excuses.

He stuffed us around today when the ball was in the backhalf & very nearly killed off the club today..

If we had lost because of the merry go round football he was dishing up, this Club would be In Melt Down... its not good enough.

He's got to go back to Casey for a month, & see if he can find some vigor. & if its not in him, que sera sera...

Do you know what i love, right now you bag him and spit on his name..

But if next week he has 25 possies and shreds it, youll be back on the ban wagon, just like with Jack Trengove.

He was not that bad today, at some points he wasnt great, but what do you expect when people like you are whipping him constantly. Do have confidence through the roof?

lay off buddy.

Hell come good

I agree it's time to lay off him.

He was not as bad as he is being painted and is being played way out of position. I don't get why we don't run him through the middle at times or even try him up forward.

I thought Jack was good, bad and everywhere in between today.

There were times i thought he was cool and slick and other times he should have commited to a contest and didn't.

So watching him its about confidence. I dont doubt he has talent and can do things. I just reckon he second guesses.

Maybe a bit like the team. Once he gains more confidence I do believe he will be more consistant.

I am a Jack Watts fan personally. I din't think that he was the worst player on our list today and I for one don't want to see him head off to Carlton [as has been rumoured] and watch Malthouse turn him into a Super-Star. If we can draft a schoolkid as No. 1 and then continually bag him (and convert him to the worst player on our list according to some demonlanders) perhaps our coaching genius' should share some of the blame!

His skills and composure were still first rate but his intensity and running frustrates the crap out of me.

He is in dire need of a mentor I think, someone who can get him motivated and teach him to show a bit of aggression.

just briefly went over the posts from today, so didnt pick up all the detail.

He may have got 19 touches. but how many would have he had if playing on from kick ins didnt count?

Also, people say hes a good kick. Sure he can probably kick with the straightest line in the team, but his field kicking, i believe is overrated. as i said his line is alright, but how often do you see him kick a ball 5 meters in the air and travels 40 m on the [censored]. Matthew Suckling like. I saw a few players (mainly GWS) who can do it, Watts isnt one.

Wayne Carey.

Hate him as a guy, and don't want to listen to him, but geez the stuff he says about footy I really respect, and his no nonsense old school approach would be just what Watts needs.

Not sure we are watching the same bloke. Watts' field kicking is elite. If his teammates were actually working hard and running to space he'd be a very handy weapon.

Unfortunately his lack of intensity and hunger for the contest just really leaves him without a position. He cant play back because he had to man up and compete physically and he struggles to play forward because of the same reasons and our midfield delivery and forward structure is horrific.

Can we design a position where he can just run around all day, not be accountable and just try and get 40 kicks a game?

Jack needs some confidence, thought it was poor form by the supporters giving the Bronx cheers today,

Whoever posted earlier he needs a mentor is spot on, even if its an outsider like Wayne Carey, mark neeld needs to get this right ASAP as it looks like we are killing another kids career

Notice the last quarter. Team playing well no problems for watts.

Us been bad and him under pressure is good for him. Rawlings and co need to sit him down, do a big review and go from there. The win will keep his spot and I hope he rewards the faith.

I hate that North have Hine, Atley, McMillan, wright and mullet all on a half back flank. All have some harness, speed and skill. We are stuffing around with watts and hoping for Jetta and Strauss

I think he can still make it but he needs to go back to Casey and and stay there until he demands a recall - not after 2-3 weeks but 6-10. Look at McLean when he went to Carlton. Was not gifted games and was sent to the VFL to the point where some thought his career was over. Then when he did get his next chance he took it with both hands as be knew be may not get another. There's no point dropping Watts for 1 or 2 weeks he needs to find form and confidence and learn you need to earn games (by putting your body on the line) and not just be gifted them. Goes for a few other players on our list as well only problem is not sure how many players we have to come in for them all. Watts would be one of my first on this list though.

come off it, theres no spitting, just pure honesty.

the kid isn't currently up to afl footy.

he needs to go back to casey to grow a pair & learn to do the hard work.

right now, he's a liability the team cannot afford. least of all the coach. he's a coach killer.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
