Franklin: Hawthorn's Voldemort

There is a showdown looming at Glenferrie Oval this year.

Franklin and Clarkson are not talking to each other over an issue to do with Buddies partying.

A source has told me the words

"it's either him or me" were uttered in a conciliation/ crisis meeting .

The club is divided over it.

Not a happy team at Hawthorn.

Personally I'm pretty happy with it.

Here we go again

AFL will look at topping up Lance Franklin's pay if decides to move north and join GWS

Certainly, we need to promote the game on a national level but does it have to be in a way that denies constituent clubs any chance of preserving their most valuable assets?

If I were a Hawks supporter reading this, I would be one livid, and two demanding answers, particularly from the AFL. Unlikely to get any answers.

It stinks of an unfair playing field.

Who is to say that Buddy hasn't been directly offered by the AFL $10million upon retirement from the game if he moves to GWS? Plus marketing cuts. On top of any future lucrative contracts....

Where has the heat on Demetriou gone?

Very nice cleansing article on Demetriou and the Commission yesterday. PR anyone?

In breaking news I understand that Hawthorn have enlisted retired Green's politician Bob Brown 'to save the Franklin'!

And some were saying it would be unfair if hogan played for us this year. The AFL are in the business of unfair. This comes as no surprise to me and I think we and some other clubs need to be thought of a bit more. What if the doggies who won't have much to watch this year have their own little warchest to attempt to take buddy or another big name in the attempt to win games but also raise memberships and interest? Sorry lads outbid by the love child giants with the approval of the head office. This is becoming one of the most unfair leagues and it has to stop.

I think any supporter would be, no love for the hawks here but this is just way over the top.

It's these type of decisions that splits competitions.

Demetriou just spoke on SEN, and called it very poor journalism by Robinson based on a hypothetical question.

If you were Buddy, you couldn't help but think what kind of figures the AFL would be talking. He may already know.....hello Folau's marketing component....

I new it, that must have been why I heard he was being 'shopped' last year. To make him change his ways, or to get something back for his trade.

Actually I hope he goes to GWS.

I think that will help us secure some other.

And the Hawks will be in the market for a mobile forward.

Have been told (cant vouch for the source) that Freo has offered $1.2 for 4 yrs PLUS a guarantee he will be employed as an indigenous ambassador for 10 yrs post career..

Its starting to smell...the AFL will have their hand all over it,

Franklin....Gawn!

Freo Mining $$$ will set up the Franklin mint very nicely.

Vlad our bloated one got very heated on the the wireless this morning.

Cracks are appearing in his Empire at AFL HQ.

Could it be that he views only flags won outside of Victoria as profitable?

Won't be long, his reign of tyranny is approaching the end

Maybe Robbo got the Club wrong but the gist of the article was correct - all based on extra ambasadorial payments. Can you imagine Jeff K reaction to this - AFL assisting another Club to poach one of their players. Sounds familiar.

Can we sign someone up as a ambassador for Casey? Or the doggies have someone be an ambassador for sunshine? Why can't we just have a correct salary cap with no outside payments?

Just a reminder..Why was the MFC denied a 3rd Party deal to keep $cully?

We were never given any reason for this.

But of course the deal had already been $igned off.

Us v Them Demons. The only way this club will survive.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
