Is Brock McLean one of the most respected and popular players in the AFL?

I've never recieved so many compliments from supports of other clubs, especially magpies and bombers supporters, about a Melbourne player. My sisters b/f, who would die for the pies, says he despises Melbourne and thinks they don't deserve to be in the AFL (lol) apart from Brock.

Another friend, who is a Carlton supporter, says Brock McLean is his favourite player in the league.

Some family friends, who are the typical arrogant and ignorant essendon supporters, say they'd give up anyone (yes, ANYONE) on their team for Brock.

And that is only the start of it. I've heard many others.

He WILL be Melbournes next captain.

He WILL be Melbournes best ever player.

He WILL lead us to a premiership.

He WILL win a brownlow.

He IS a legend.

Haha... but to give the thread a bit of context. He had just played his finest game for the MFC and probably won us an elimination final off his own boot. I was hearing similar comments about McLean after that game.

In 2007 it all changed. Melbouren sunk, and McLean never recaptured that form.

In Brock's first couple of years I thought he would be the keystone to Melbournes next premiership-stage.

Especially, in that 2006 elimanation final against St Kilda where he was amazing and destroyed the saints. However, since then he has done little to suggest he will be the next captain (off field issues), Melbournes next best player (Have alook at our list of young promising kids). Injuries and the speed of the game have not helped brock in the past few seasons as the games getting quicker, brock seems to be getting slower.

In comparison with Colin Sylvia the two seem to have done a 180 degree turn on there career, Colin a couple of years ago showed little to impress and Brock seemed to be the shinning light. I know now, which one i'd prefer.

I wouldn't be too worried about losing brock mate, his type are easy to find, in fact we have a couple at the moment, moloney, jones and maybe ball.

Your analysis and your conclusion are spot on.

The fact that Brock defected after pronouncing his life-long devotion to the MFC has not helped his public image. He has always been quick to promote himself - and his football over the last couple of years has not matched his stated ambition.

I'd like to see McLean look his former mates in the eye and say he is sorry for being a traitor.

It reeks of a perceived easier path to finals footy.

This fella took us all for a ride and I for one am still massively pi55ed off.

Respected and popular with whom?????? Nah, not now, probably not for 2 or 3 seasons as well.

I have a mate who works at Carlton and Is good mates with a few of the players. Apparently Brock hasn't got off to a great start, met up with the Carlton boys In Vegas and made a complete arse of himself.

Ratts & Riley would be most delighted.

Hoopla -it is your influence and spell you cast upon the MFC that is responsible for Brock leaving and Sylvia coming good. This guy Hoopla never rated Brock and when he played the final vs St Kilda did not get caught in the hype. He has personally made it his crusade to get Colin Sylvia up and running which he has proven instrumental in.

Now that Brock has left does Jimmy give him back the 10% for the guitar pruchase?

Brock McLean chose to walk out on the Demons so i will be giving him the full treatment with Both Barrels when we next play Carlton.

Along with Ju$$ we should all make him feel most uncomfortable.

He was not pushed out by us. He chose to walk.

A Dictionary example of that would be Traitor....Do what you will.

BTW. Glad to read Brock got off on the right foot with his "New Pals" in Vegas!!!!

I don't really understand the antagonism towards Brock. He saw the writing on the wall - he's getting slower and we are recruiting gun mid-fielders. Doesn't take a genius to see what would happen in a couple of years time.

The manner in which Brock left us put us in a great position re an early draft pick.

Doesn't mean I will cheer him on as a blue(brown?)bagger. But still respect the effort he put in for the club and the debt demolition.

Like you I'm delighted with pick 11.

I think the antagonism follows the hypocrisy. Here's a bloke espousing his love of the MFC , donating money etc one year - and walking out the next. As soon as it became obvious that he wasn't going to be captain - all that love disappeared and he was off

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
